Challenging setup, buggy app

Weirdly difficult to get setup up but working well now. One big reason we got it was for the automatic timer, but the timer function doesn’t work in the app.

Broken voice command

The menu to setup voice automation via Alexa or Google is broken, takes you to a Rain Maker ESP white label website

A great idea undone by glitchineas

Been using Thermacell LIV+ for years, largely because the initial cost motivated perseverance in the face of poor execution of features. Last year the app was updated and the timer feature was a welcomed perk that this year is not working at all. I trusted it and blew through an entire refill cartridge. When I’ve used my remaining cartridges, I’m removing the system. I don’t have time to babysit technology nor the budget to accommodate its failures. It’s easier and more economical to just go back to the fuel based repellers.

Buggy

Buggy. Turns off periodically for no reason & does not correctly communicate when contents are low or running out.

Crapp

System’s great; add “cr” to the beginning of the word “app” though.

Hubs DO NOT connect!

Received three brand new hubs. Only 1 connected the first time. We either get Bluetooth errors or node connecting failure errors. Absurd in this day and age that they only rely on 2.4ghz and even then it doesn’t want to connect. While the repellers themselves work great. The software and app is a disaster.

Google Home / Alexa removed? Why?

Google Home integration is a must-have feature for me. Was present in v1.. why remove it for v2

Welp, same old song and dance

*Update. A month in and I still can’t connect. I’ve tried everything. To be fair, support has tried to help. I just can’t believe this app is worse than the first. That one used to at least get me a connection. This one gets me absolutely nothing.

I almost just have no words. After more hours of attempting to connect with THIS brand new, new and improved app and equipment, here we are again. Not connected. Again. I’m just so over this system. And it’s SO expensive to buy and maintain. The app capability is one of the main reasons we bought it. At least it works now when I manually turn it on, that also was not working for a couple weeks, but not the way it’s supposed to. So disappointed. Again.

Yikes

I guess this is what happens when mosquito people try to make SaaS. Stick to mosquitos. Contract out the rest. Have you tried installing your own systems? Clearly a sign of bad management that doesn’t actually use the product.

Worked on second try

I know people have problems connecting. I initially had an issue but it was resolved after I unplugged and replied the hub. At that point Bluetooth found the hub and it connected to WiFi quickly thereafter. Know that the app isn’t necessary to run the system as there is a big power button on the front of the hub. My hub is under a deck and hard to get too, so the app is nice.

While the technology might be picky, the actual system works amazingly well at chasing away mosquitoes!

Working well

I bought into the ecosystem a couple years ago, it was definitely not a cheap investment, but it works very well. Thermacell retired their old model of Liv, but sent an entire new replacement to me along with additional refill cartridges at no cost. It was fantastic to know they stand behind their product that strongly.

I initially couldn’t get to connect until I disabled the 5 GHz channel on my Wi-Fi leaving just 2.4 GHz and then it completed the connection. Leaving this information here in case anybody else is having the same problem.

Somehow worse than the first

Oh how naive I was when I thought Thermacell might be improving the LIV experience with a new hub and new app. This new app is worse than the first, can’t even connect my hub to my network, and provides no meaningful troubleshooting help. The website is useless too. Thermacell, what was the point in ditching the old stuff and spending all this money on sending out replacements and building a new app if y’all don’t hire a competent development team? There are countless reputable third-party developers who make excellent native apps for connected devices. Just spend the money and have one of them develop a passable app. I won’t be ordering replacement repellents (mostly because I can’t even pair my hub!).
