Date is totally made up

The app decoder is so random and decodes whatever you input.
I tried to put nonsense words in it and it returned a valid date. Can’t trust this app at all.

Response from developer

Thank you for raising this. LotDate is designed to decode genuine batch codes printed on product packaging using brand-specific formats, and results depend on selecting the correct brand and entering the printed code accurately. We’re improving how unsupported inputs are identified. If a real product code gives an unexpected result, please tap ‘Not accurate? → Send feedback’ so we can verify it directly and improve the experience for you.

Pretty reliable

correct dates about 7/10 but some were way off by years. Not everything has been expired that’s been reported here. they have the option to let them know and they correct it.

Response from developer

Thank you for reporting those results. LotDate uses brand-specific batch-code formats, but manufacturers may update or reuse formats across different production periods. The displayed expiry is also an estimate based on the decoded production date. If a result looks incorrect, tap ‘Not accurate? → Send feedback’ and add the known date so we can verify that exact code and improve the rule for everyone.

What happened to the TRIAL promotion?

The trial promotion was 10 seconds. Not one week, not even one day. I was excited to see that something like this exists BUT without first being able to see if this is going to be beneficial for me, let alone how it works, and the results, it’s a waste .

Response from developer

Thank you for the feedback. We understand that the free experience may feel brief when you’re still deciding whether LotDate is useful. Maintaining decoding rules for 2,000+ brands, server processing, and ongoing accuracy updates creates continuing costs, so free access is limited while Pro supports unlimited use and continued improvements. We’re reviewing how to make the first experience clearer and more useful.

Subscription

Can I seriously only check one item a day with this thing without a subscription? That’s ridiculous.

Response from developer

We understand that the free allowance may feel limited. LotDate requires continuous maintenance of brand-specific decoding rules, server infrastructure, and accuracy updates. Unsuccessful lookups don’t use the daily allowance, and saved results remain available in Recent History. Pro supports unlimited use and helps us continue maintaining the service. Thank you for the candid feedback.
