Used to be good; just awful now

This is a great app if you want to pay someone to do a Google search for you.

Could’ve been great. But often drops the ball.

Because of image sending often not working. Which is what I use to provide context to tasks. They don’t have the knowledge to complete tasks.

In the most recent context, I had a jet skiing date with my girlfriend and had to move the time 2 hours later. And because of an image not sending with a screenshot of the phone number. I ended up being charged $300+ and no jet skis for the rest of the day. So date blown.

They drop the ball in other respects, and over count hours spent as well.

This is a hard app to do logistically. I get it. But just seems like laziness as this app has been around awhile now. So no excuses anymore.

Terrible

I needed four labels printed. It took an hour+ ($40+) after me asking for four labels for this app to tell me to put stamps on them instead. After I complained I couldn’t quit, they had a manager contact me that I didn’t ask for after not cancelling my account per my ask. I had to demand they cancel my account. Then I kept getting emails I couldn’t unsubscribe to. They still haven’t cancelled my account, are contacting me over email, and my financial information is still visible. Don’t work with irresponsible tech developers who represent a liability more than a service. This was t about the labels, this is that they won’t allow you to leave.

Great concept; Inefficient at best

Don’t waste your time or money. Decided to test out services by asking them to reschedule an appointment. It took them over an hour to do so even giving them the number and exact information.

Two days later turns out they didn’t even complete the task and still charged me. But getting in touch with this customer service about a refund is impossible.

A simple task had left a bad taste in my mouth. Do not trust them for anything important.

Can’t recommend in 2022

Not only can they not complete simple tasks such as “buy product X”, they overcharge you to boot. I wasted $45 to get a restaurant recommendation that was actually closed on the day I wanted to visit. Such a joke and not worth your time to even download.

An expensive lesson

A few years ago a colleague positively mentioned magic, and I filed this away until this week, when I decided that I would try getting simple tasks off my plate so I could focus on other areas of my life. In order to test the service before going all-in, I defined four different types of tasks that would enable me to see what magic could do.
1. Structured research - Find me a hotel based on several geographical, feature, and functional parameters
2. Critical thinking - Identity the appropriate standard sized tablecloth to buy given approx dimensions and a photo of my table
3. Booking - book me a spa day at a local hotel spa
4. Exploratory research - find 2-3 companies that can clean all of the exterior windows at my house and get ballpark quotes
The only task that was accomplished successfully was the booking task, however, instead of just calling the hotel spa directly the magician went on some roundabout effort to book multiple adjacent services online, which was ultimately ineffective and cost me multiple hours of their time. They ended up having to call the hotel spa anyway to book it. If I had called myself it would have been a 10 min task accounting for hold times etc.
They spent 2.5 hrs on task 1, producing a list of hotels that didn't fully meet the criteria. I spent 20 min on a hotel app and found a place myself.
They spent half an hour on task 2 and told me the dimensions of a custom tablecloth for my table. No real acknowledgement that they didn't do what I asked. This should have been a quick Google search of "standard sized tablecloths" and effectively a five minute task.
For task 4 they produced a list of companies, however, the quotes they have been getting are extraordinarily low ($140 to clean all of the exterior windows, storm windows, and screens on a 2300 sqft home?) which says to me that they have not been giving the right information or asking the right questions. I will use the list they produced to get accurate quotes directly.
Overall I am extremely disappointed in the service, which I think dishonestly represents its capabilities. On top of that its technology is glitchy and the support team is not responsive. These are the signs of a company on its way out of business. I can only hope my expensive lesson will save other busy people a bunch of time, money, and disappointment.

Easter basket

I ordered an Easter basket to be delivered to our hotel while out of town. It was for my 11 year old daughter. Basket should have been delivered by Saturday or on Sunday Easter. It was confirmed that it would make it. It did not make it on time. So they shipped it again to our home a week later. Get the Easter basket it is for an adult. So first is late. Then they charged me a bunch of extra hours to track it. The. Again for shipping. Now 2 months later I get a text the shipping was incorrect amount. So today I’m charged another $70 for difference in shipping. I have now spent $500 for an Easter basket that is coffee a stuffed rabbit and one chocolate rabbit. All crap even after explaining what my daughter liked. Absolutely will not recommend or use again. Hope this review is helpful to anyone looking for task or assistance.

4 hours billed for 30 min of tasks

I really wanted this to be amazing and I love delegating out and saving time on tasks but it just really wasn’t. Enough so that I’m writing this review, as I almost never write reviews.

I tested the app with three tasks and they each took entirely too much time. Two of them were easily 15 minute tasks. I stopped them at an hour and they were still only ¼ done. Talked to a manager and their breakdown of time still didn’t make sense.

I guess they rely on business billing where no one is paying attention.

SCAM. Billing expensive bills

This company is a scam. The customer service is really bad. It’s been a week since I sent an email and no answer.
This is the first time I write a bad review. But god the service is way too expensive for the work they do. I asked magic to crop 4 pictures as a total. Iam a fashion reseller and I need to crop hundreds of pictures for my website. I just wanted to see if they were effective before asking them to do a bigger task. They cropped 4 pictures in more than 2 hours and charged me $70. I went back on my bill two days later and the bill stated $80. First $70 for cropping 4 pictures ? Really ? Then secondly why my bill is increasing ? I sent multiples emails and then magically my billed passed to $54. But let’s be honest $54 is still too much for cropping 4 pictures.
Still no answer from the customer service.
If you decide to use this company, Check your billing history, they may try to take more money.

Quality has fallen off

This service used to be great. The last few jobs they have just milked me for a bunch of hours doing barely any work and providing no result. I’ve stopped using. They always seem to take the most time inefficient path possible to completing a task, like filling out a spreadsheet with a bunch of useless info rather than actually doing the task. There is also an instance where I asked them to cap the time at 3 hours and they went over to 3.5. If you don’t give them a time limit they will just go ham and spend a bunch of hours doing nonsense tasks and never complete the task and stick you with a big bill.

Giving 3 stars instead of 1 because I believe the company can make operational changes to make this app great - it used to work well and was a huge help

Excellent service

I highly recommend!! Using magic had been a blessing!!

This app is a scam! Do not bother

I gave this app a try on 2 very simple tasks.
Both times, the assistant managed to take a simple task that should have taken 5 minutes of google search and twist it into something that takes multiple days to accomplish.

No matter how specific I got with my ask, they’ll still find ridiculous ways to create an elaborate plan to address what should be a basic google search.

It’s obvious that they’re just trying to run the clock instead of trying to be helpful.

Definitely deleting this app. Do not try it! It’s just a scam!

Magic is not so Magical

I have used the app for about the last four years , as a personal assistant. Typically would use it for delivery pickups of prescriptions, keys, etc. This worked OK. About half the time, the rep. got very little accomplished.

I finally cancelled the service as the last several
requests, which were fairly basic, and the rep
could not make ANY progress other than generate significant billable
Invoices.

It is useful for the most basic of tasks. I have no sense that any task of any sophistication can be addressed. It basically feels like you are dealing with someone in a foreign call center who knows very little other than what they can find through Google.

I wanted it to be good. But the service was always sub-standard in the best of times, and over the last 18 months it is junk. Also, when I started to ask them to do what they were billing for and complain, there was ZERO interest in attempting to help address my concerns. I unfortunately have to give the customer satisfaction/retention group an “F” as well.

Take a pass on Magic. It blows.

AVOID... you do not get what you pay for

For a service that promises convenience at the press of the button, facilitated by supposedly highly-qualified assistants who charge nearly 60c per minute, my recent experiences with Magic have been nothing but. The service is riddled with overbilling and low quality service. This is certainly NOT a case where “you get what you pay for” and you may spend more time and effort talking with Magic specifying your tasks (and escalating the occasional overbilling) than it would take to just execute the task yourself.

I have used Magic on-and-off in 2014-2015, 2017, and in 2020. There has been a perceivable decline in the quality over time and I agree with other reviewers here that it appears today Magic‘s business model is simply to outsource tasks to workers overseas. 5 years ago Magic was nifty but today it doesn’t feel like the same app.

Over the last two months my experience has been very poor: simple tasks like planning a vacation itinerary or compiling a list of real estate listings have taken DAYS to execute rather than hours, and I was disappointed with the quality of the final work product (incomplete research, not to spec, etc). On two separate occasions I was so shocked at the amount of time billed for simple tasks (coordinate with another person to book a restaurant, send me a reminder) that I escalated. In one instance Magic agreed that the time billed was excessive and reduced the billable hours by 40%(!!). I am still waiting for their review of the second instance. The steep hourly rate is fair, but works only if the hours are reasonably billed.

The type of hassle and low quality work product I experienced is unacceptable for a service that markets itself as a high-quality (and high cost) assistant service. Would not recommend. I intend to delete the app very shortly.

Good idea; not worth the money.

I have tried this a few times now. I really want to like it and utilize it, but It is very disappointing and I could never recommend it to anyone.
Example : my latest task I asked them to call a service provider and pay my bill. I recently had my oil changed (which was already completed) - all they had to do was call and read off the credit card number. Ended up taking Magic well over an hour and they charged me $65 for their services. $65 to call, read a credit card number, and obtain receipt. Similar story the last two times. Too bad because this seemed like a good idea.

Best Assistant I’ve Tried!

Magic has been much better than any other assistant I’ve tried. Yes, you have to manage and delegate effectively, but the quality and price are really on point. I’m hooked!

Sounds cool but very inefficient with little transparency

I liked the idea of of magic so I used it for a few simple tasks like finding a place to transfer car ownership or track down a product. Both times they not only provided the incorrect information but charged me almost $30 for an hour of work for a very simple task that should have taken 10 min max. Then it’s hard to see a breakdown of what you’ve been charged. If you don’t care about money and the task isn’t that important I guess this could be cool.

Incompetent, Clumsy, Risky

I’ve used magic for a couple months now. First, they outsource most of the work the Philippians and other third world countries. So when you think you’re getting US based work for $30/hr. You’re not. Second, I asked magic to do a simple task of sending 1 message out to 8 people on LinkedIn. They proceeded to mass blast the email to over 100 people. I was then: (1) prohibited from sending out connections on LinkedIn, and (2) got dozens of angry messages. I used LinkedIn for my business; this is not a joke. Third, I asked them to find someone on Fiverr to do my logo. After many failed attempts from the designer I asked if I could speak with him directly - they said no! Apparently they use their “business” account and therefore are unable to connect me with the designer. Why? How does that make sense? I’d bet they were getting a kickback on the back end. All and all I’m truly disappointed with this application. They’re not only clumsy and incompetent, but they’re dangerous with your business and personal name. Negative stars. Also, I see the developer responds to most of these posts telling the user to reach out to support. I did - multiple times to no avail.

Magic is... well, it’s MAGIC!

Hands down the best virtual assistant I’ve encountered. I’m a state legislator and Magic helps me organize and keep up with what would be an overwhelming workload. I’ve yet to encounter a task that they could not do. Not only can they do it, they will blow you away with the speed and efficiency with which they accomplish it! Highly, highly recommend.
