Lost Functionality
I appreciate the idea of using an app instead of a website on my phone, but the app doesn’t have the critical cooking programs that the website had. This loss is a major blow to the usefulness of my MAK grill.
Programs gone!!!
Useless!! I had tons of programs, they are gone and the feature is gone. I’m so upset. 6 months later still missing all of programs I spent years making. I’m so mad I could toss this thing in the dump. Why would anyone do this???!!!
Huge step backward
After spending thousands of dollars on a grill, where the number 1 or 2 differentiator is pellet controller and mobile functionality, MAK lets their mobile site “crash,” can’t recover, and rolls out a barely functional mobile app with all the distinctive controller integration removed.
Buy the grill you want for any number of other reasons, and a $30 WiFi thermometer.
MAK has seriously broken trust with their customer base, and barely acknowledges it.

No cooking programs?
I love that they finally have an app. Up until this point I was using the web interface. I used it almost exclusively for cooking programs. These cooking programs are not available on the app, and the web interface is now down. They did not allow them to run in parallel. So basically they took the functionality of cooking programs away? Why? It’s fine to be able to control your grill remotely, but it’s way more beneficial to be able to create and set up cooking programs which I had done extensively in the web interface. Please do better MAK - these grills are way too expensive to not have simple functionality like cooking programs available.

No Cooking Programs
Super disappointed that the app does not have the same features as the web interface. I do a lot of over night cooks seriously considering buying a new grill.
Pitiful lack of features
I have been forced to stop using the web control as it has been shut down, and use this app. It has almost NO features. TERRIBLE!
WTH MAK?
I can’t even add my grill to the app it just won’t connect to the grill. This is very frustrating and MAK should have communicated this change well ahead.
Downgrade from the old web interface
I love the “idea” of MAK moving from a web based interface to an app interface, but as of this writing it seems to be a pretty big loss of functionality over the web based. Just the loss of ability to construct time/temperature programs is enough for me. I can see in the app revision history that programs were part of the original scope, but then removed. I sincerely hope the folks at MAK are working to resolve this. It would have been nice if the web based interface was left online to run in parallel until all of the functionality that we expect to have was incorporated into app.

Horrible all around
Interface is horrible. I shouldn’t have to tap forever to set a temp. Notifications hardly ever work. Frequently won’t connect even though grill shows WiFi is on.

This app isn’t good at all. It shouldn’t have even been rolled out until the feature set was as good or better than MAK mobile. Cooking programs are gone, if you happen to close the app out, you lose your timers. Very disappointing! The Grill is great but the terrible app takes the whole point of owning a pellet grill in the first place…..convenience!!!

Will not let me log in
Have always used the website but the messaging has been saying to transition to the app. I reset my password since it would not log me in and just kept taking back to the login screen. Still doing the same thing with the new password. Useless. I suppose I’ll have to create a support ticket but this seems like it should be pretty basic stuff since the website control used to work fine.

The latest version of the app is much improved and a great companion to my smoker.
Apple App would not connect to my MAK.
App needs better connectivity
Poorly written
Having to tap the plus button 21 times to set the grill to 450° is ridiculous. Even though notifications are enabled I’ve never once gotten notified when the food hits desired temp.
Honestly the app has ruined the Mak experience for me
I loved Mak. Enjoyed every aspect of owning one until this app came out. The app has no cooking programs, which means there’s no ability to set up a program for overnight cooks. The website had this feature, but I can’t get the website to work once the app came out. Connectivity, buttons not working, website doesn’t connect now, etc. I have so many issues with this app that the website didn’t have. I’ve been trying to love the app. I’ve been patient, hoping it would get better but it hasn’t. It’s honestly so terrible that I am pretty sure I’m going to sell my Mak and find a different grill after 5 years with a 2 star. Can’t tell you how many people I’ve turned on to this company and I’m sad to say that I’ve reached my breaking point and won’t recommend this grill anymore. Hope the company sees this and makes an investment to fix the app (or just goes back to the website).

Glad to see that MAK finally got the app. Very easy to use and has been reliable every time. Provides the same functionality as the web site. Good job. Love the app.
Use Website Instead of App
App does not sync with web account, the web login is much more robust in grill control.
