App no longer works

Loved it but it sadly no longer works

Making app is abandoned?

It looks like this app is abandoned by developers or they have hard time to keep up. App was down for weeks, came back, and down again. I was among the first enthusiastic beta testers. It is so sad. It was a great project!

Doesn’t Work

I love this app . . . When it works. For a while, I couldn’t even see my own profile and all the projects I’d previously posted disappeared. I messaged Making on Instagram but there was no response. Everything eventually came back and I was excited to use the app again . . . Wait, I can’t even get the feed to load. I’m actually (sadly) very close to just deleting the app. It was great in the beginning but it’s not worth getting frustrated about.

I like it. I am updating as I use the app.

I enjoy this application. I do think it can still use some quality-of-life updates. Colors that better work with each other, text/font, and more responsiveness. Also, the edit button blends in with the background. Most of the issues I mention are when in Dark Mode.

Response from developer

It’s been so nice to see you on the app! Good things are coming, much of what you’ve highlighted here is on our near future roadmap. Dark mode has been designed and is coming! As is a small redesign of the post screens so that the ui doesn’t cover the photos. The tagging issue is a bug and is fixed in our next build, sorry about that. Super great feedback, if you’re at all interested in joining our beta feedback group we’d love to have you. Thanks again, cheers!

Every once in a while, the app hangs up, and I have to close it and reopen it.

Some of the settings or locations of things seem hidden. Or I can't find it at all. I enjoy this app, but I think it can use some quality-of-life features.

I used to have an issue with uploading patterns, but now it’s very easy and works!

There are still some quality f life changes I think the choice of color and the way text is viewed that needs addressing throughout the app.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted on the app. Felt good to add something new.

I notice when adding a PDF to my shop it hangs up after I’m done. Stuck in an upload cycle. I remember having this issue when shops was first introduced.

I've kept my eye on this platform, but I've been slow to set myself up. I love the dedicated space for crafters. It seems safe and engaging; I feel in control of what I want to see and how I want to use the app. Community driven. It can use a few bells and whistles but not too much to take away from the purpose. I am enjoying it so far! I would love a dark mode.
.
Some minor things, or maybe I'm still learning the mechanics, but when I try to tag someone in a post, and their name comes up as a suggestion, I click on it, but it displays their email. I'm not sure if that's normal. Usually, it's just their handle on most platforms. So I deleted the email part. After I posted, their tag didn't take me to them. It says this user doesn't have a profile, but if I search them, it comes up.
.
I just learned how you could resize the photo by pinching to zoom. It wasn't evident to me at first the way the UI is set up. I still feel like the photos come second the way they're somewhat hidden by the wall after being posted. It looks nice, but I feel it's a little intrusive.

Great community of makers!

I love the Making app. There is so much opportunity for makers to document their creations, connect with others, teach and learn, cross-pollinate inspiration across mediums and more. The virtual events they host make for deeper conversations and much enjoyment. I really love this app.

The Future of Crafting & Making

I am so in love with this app and the company’s mission to create a community of close-knit artists and makers. I believe this app will be the future replacement for Instagram, Etsy, and Craftsy. Everything I need, in one centered, grounded place - created by humans who truly care and are making the world a better place.

A breath of fresh air

This app is perhaps most valuable to me for all the ways that it encourages PROCESS and CURIOSITY.

A lot of the folks on the app post projects in process, not just polished and finished products. It gives context and encourages me to JUST BEGIN (if I’m stuck) or JUST KEEP GOING (if I’m in the middle of things). Making things with my hands is crucial to my mental health, but its a slow process, and its good to remember its that way for a lot of us. The process matters and is beautiful and valuable in its own right.

There are also opportunities to learn from others, both through formal classes and informal interactions. The classes are easy to access and are generally presented as an INVITATION TO LEARN AND CREATE.

All in all, there is a sense of invitation and welcome. That is certainly a breath of fresh air.

Still needs a bit of work but it’s generally great

The app itself is still a little clunky, but the community who run and use it are lovely. It’s a much better place to be than the other platforms, especially if you’re a maker.

My only gripe is that I don’t love the way photos are displayed. They end up being automatically cropped and they just don’t look great on this app.

I’m sure it’s clunkyness will be resolved soon, and I’m very much enjoying the app in general so far.

I’ve found my tribe!

Finding making has been a game changer for me. Having a supportive community where I can share what I’m making is so cool. I don’t have to wade through anxiety inducing posts NOT about craft or yawn through streams of adverts! This is the social network / app I’ve been dreaming of since I started crafting! So pleased I can now give the others the flick!

Can't try before signup

I'd like to at least see what I'm signing up for before I give over my data but this app requires you to enroll before seeing anything. No option to partially browse as a guest or anything. Useless. Uninstalling.

Nice alternative to IG for makers

I’m really enjoying this app, my only quibble is that I really really wish there was a “dark mode” option. I find myself not using it in the evening because all the white space in the layouts feels a bit blinding.

Cozy Creative Community

I love love love this app and community! I’m inspired every time I log on — by various makers’ projects, process, and finished objects. It’s my favorite parts of the social media platform I just left. Making is creative pictures and inclusive community without the noise and the mindless scrolling.

So fun!

It’s been great to see what all kinds of other makers out there are up to. I do wish you could read the caption for the pictures without having to click on the image. Inspiring nonetheless!

Creative community and inspo live here

As a new-ish knitter, Making puts inspiration, project tracking and connecting with a knowledgeable and friendly community in the palm of my hand—can’t imagine creating without it!

A great alternative to Instagram

I love this app like many others and love that it is ad-free and run by awesome humans! I love the classes that are integrated into the app, that’s so wonderful. I do find that the majority of makers seem to be knitters right now, which isn’t me so I find a lot of the posts don’t speak to me personally, but maybe that will expand over time. I would love if there was a bit of a caption under the photo shown in the feed to get a sense of what the work is about without having to click on each one. I’m also not clear on who I am seeing in my feed because most of the people I see I don’t follow. I’d love a grid option to see the feed too so it isn’t just one long scroll, but I know they are so new and adding new features all of the time, which is great! Overall, I think it’s a fabulous app for crafters and makers who want to share what they are creating in a light-hearted space.

Working out the bugs

Seems like there’s been some recent updates and things are less buggy now, fabulous!
