Recent update bugs

(iPad Air M2, 26.2) As of the recent update, plots do not scale to fit the window when opened unless the window is transformed while the plot is open. Since the plot cannot be saved if the window is transformed while it’s open, saving a plot as an image now requires generating the plot, opening the plot, resizing the window to properly scale the plot, closing the plot, reopening the plot, then using the save button.

Taking time out of my day to review this terrible app

Now you know

UI is still buggy on ipad

Some improvements. But usability is still an issue on ipad. On iPadOS18, there is helpful strip of symbols at the bottom (left, right, up, down, (), [], {}, =, etc …) that are in the way of input when input reached the bottom of the window. We can’t even see what we typed.

Useless for my needs

Matlab is an incredibly power suite of programs, I have been using it professionally for over 30 year. One of its strength is it ability to present complex data in ways non-experts can understand, often by using animated and interactive figures. Unfortunately, the mobile version has stripped even the most basic animation capabilities from figures. No drawnow, no realtime redeeming, no movie…. You get last frame. Not sure what they are shooting for here. It is not due to hardware limitations , tablets and cell phones have plenty of graphis power, there is no license option to enable animations… it is really a shame. I cannot overstate my disappointment.

Please fix keyboard issue with Live Scripts

There has been a really nasty bug with using live scripts when using a keyboard on IOS IPAD. It almost makes the app unusable, but since I am required for school, I have no choice.

I have been using the app for coming on two years, and this has still not been addressed. I have tried to contact support, but there has been no changes.

Please fix this!

Response from developer

Hello, thank you for your feedback. Our Editor team is currently working on fixing this issue. In the meanwhile, could you please go to Settings -> General-> Keyboards -> Shortcuts and check if you can turn on this option? We hope this work around will allow you to continue using the editor. If this workaround doesn't work for you, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at support@mathworks.com - we are happy to help.

Please let me use the browser version

Data files (txt, xls) in the MATLAB Drive aren’t even displayed in order to load them using readmatrix/readtable. The function “uigetfile” doesn’t work and the script just bricks indefinitely. I’d love to be able to use the browser version of the app, but instead I’m forced to download this, which does not work for what I need.

Great for Basics!

I have an iPad Pro with and M1 chip and a Magic Keyboard and I love to use Matlab Mobile. I had it a few years ago as well and since then there have some great and significant improvements. My class is not extremely intense and I do not have to use live scripts, but for what I need it for the results are always produced. Great job to the team for all the great improvements! I really feel like I do not have to use a computer for Matlab now and can do all my assignments using my iPad.

Continent to use, but very buggy

I like the a ability to use the app with IOS devices, but there are a lot of bugs. Particularly if I am using a keyboard, there is a problem with the live scripts. My cursor does not stay inside the live script area, and I cannot type anything.

I have contacted support, but have not had any response. Please fix this annoying issue.

Full version matlab with simulink is needed for ipad pros

As apple silicons are getting better and more powerful, it seems that it’s time for the native iPad’s Matlab application that runs just like in the mac computers
Me as a user feel this shortage so much and i hope that your team brings the power of full version of Matlab on powerful iPad pro

Thanks

Great for school work and projects

This app produces exceptional performance on iPad/iPhone considering it can process results faster than most of my college’s desktop computers. I’ve run into a small issue figures. MATLAB seems to create permanent figures that cannot be cleared with the clear function. Each overwrite with new data confuses the figure and plots the old data, or simply omits the new data. The resolution to the bug(s) seems to be removing app and redownloading. Overall, the app works great with the files app. Creating, moving, renaming, etc. work wonderfully in both apps. Data collection with device sensors also works great. PS: I expect that MATLAB could/should replace clunky Pasco Capstone software (commonly found in physics classrooms) if resources were available and taught in previous classes. I do wish I had access to and knew how to use Matlab in high school.
(Edit) I’m still learning Matlab.

Hello, thank you for your feedback. We are happy that you are enjoying the app. You can close individual figures selecting the share icon on the top right of the figure view or simply use the "close all" command to delete all your figures. If you have more questions, feel free to reach out to us at support@mathworks.com.

Great for visualisation sensor data

Was amazed by the still restraining all the key functionalities and nice figure visualisation on the phone. Collecting sensory data and plot my biking route. So much fun.

Without any bias, I think this is an amazing APP to do light programming especially visualisation on the phone!

Editing Live script files

I really find this app useful and I want to use it to check student work that they email when I am away from my desk, edit Live script files to provide feedback BUT editing is next to impossible due to random cursor movements and behavior. Please fix it. iPhone 13.

Response from developer

Hello, thank you for your feedback. Our Editor team is working to fix some cursor problems, but it would be good to hear more about your use cases. When you have time, could you contact us at support@mathworks.com and describe the issues you are seeing? We are happy to investigate them.

Broken UI

Live script interface is broken. You positioned the code cell you want to enter into to the middle of the screen so that you can see what’s above to write more code; click the cell (to gain focus to type), then it will move up to wherever it wants, hiding almost everything above it. Does it make sense to developer at Matlab? Do you write code like that? This is super dumb.

Furthermore, there is no way each code cell can enter more than 1 statement like desktop. Practically speaking, this iOS app is only good for writing single line code, picking your nose. Why bother releasing the app at all?

Response from developer

Hello, thank you for your feedback. We acknowledge the current issues the Live Editor has with scrolling and we are working to fix them. Regarding entering statements on multiple lines in the code section, this should work. Could you contact us at support@mathworks.com? We are happy to investigate this issue.

Cannot Save Live Files

This app is decent, except I cannot find a way to save live files while using a keyboard and Bluetooth mouse on my iPad Air 2020 model. It seems there is no save button, and live files do not save when run…

Response from developer

Hello, thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you have problems saving Live Scripts. The file should save after you pressed "run". Please reach out to us at support@mathworks.com – we are happy to investigate further.

I really wanted to like this

I was initially blown away by the ease of use and functionality.

However, I quickly realized there was one critical flaw:

plotting.

The plots don’t reset even after using “clear”, making it impossible to use multiple plotting scripts. If I didn’t run into this problem I would have given 5 stars!

Unusable - on ipad pro

Disconnects repeatedly within < 2 minutes of idle & reconnecting requires reopening the file from the browser. Scrolling and selecting text is very buggy. Features are very limited to begin with.
