About

A night visit to Hanazono Shrine, then on to Golden Gai. A morning food walk through Tsukiji Outer Market. Matsuri helps you find experiences in Japan and book them in the app. At many spots, get three torii questions right in a row and the torii opens. Each day, answer one question and draw today’s omikuji; your streak shows in a widget. Emergency Mode is there for a day you hope never comes. 13 LANGUAGES Matsuri works in Japanese, English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Norwegian, Spanish, French, German, Danish and Burmese. Choose one when you first open the app and switch any time from the globe on My Page. Signed-in users get emails and notifications in that language too. FIND, CHECK AND BOOK EXPERIENCES Browse Guided Tours, Experiences, Meetups and Events that are on the calendar now. Most are in Tokyo for now. Each experience page shows the highlights, the price, dates, what’s included and the meeting point. Pick a date and party size to book, and your ticket arrives as a QR code in My Page. Some tours offer Group (per person) or Private (one price for your party). Prices are the total you pay by card, with tax and the card fee. OMIKUJI WALK The Omikuji tab shows the spot nearest to you and one button for what to do next. Where a spot has torii questions, the button reads “Take on the torii questions”. Answer them one at a time, on shrine history and legends, the kami and etiquette. Get three right in a row and the torii opens. If you miss, you see the right answer with an explanation and its source. Then tilt your phone forward to bow twice, and give it a gentle shake to ring the bell four times. Tapping works too. Nothing is scored, and the camera is never used. Draw an omikuji, and a page is added to the Goshuin book in the app and a lantern is lit. Both are records kept in the app; a goshuin is received in person at a shrine or temple. At some spots, “About this shrine” on the spot page introduces the kami enshrined there, their blessings, and the shrine’s history and stories, with sources. SHOP Browse crafts and goods from Japanese ateliers and shops, by season, by craft (tea, ceramics, calligraphy and more) or for gifting. Deliver to your hotel or your home in Japan. Some items can also be shipped abroad. Prices include tax; shipping is calculated at checkout. RESTAURANTS AND THE TAXI CARD Find restaurants by dietary needs such as vegetarian, vegan or halal, and by cuisine, area and price. Booking happens on each restaurant’s own site. “Show a taxi driver” puts the restaurant’s name and address in large Japanese, and you can copy the address in Japanese. Dietary tags come from each restaurant; please confirm with the restaurant. EMERGENCY MODE Find the nearest official evacuation sites on a map and in a list (data from the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan). Distance and direction work without a signal. There is also a safety guide for each hazard, an offline board for nearby phones that have the app open, official alerts from the Japan Meteorological Agency, a way to tell people you’re safe, and an SOS signal. No account needed. Emergency Mode is for reference and is not an earthquake early-warning system. In a real evacuation, follow on-site signs and local authorities. PAYMENTS AND MTC POINTS Pay by card, or with crypto such as SOL from a Solana wallet app. MTC Points are used inside the app: drawing an omikuji at a spot adds a few, within limits, and you can use them to pay for experiences and shop orders. You never need them to use Matsuri. Nothing here is financial advice or a promise about MTC’s value. GOOD TO KNOW - Booking, buying, the omikuji walk and the daily question require sign-in. No account needed just to look around. - Experience photos are illustrative (some are AI-generated). - Listings of experiences, products, spots and restaurants change from day to day.
