About

Wasshoi - every matsuri in Japan, in your pocket From Gion Matsuri, Hakata Gion Yamakasa and Karatsu Kunchi down to the small summer festival in a town you have never heard of. Over 700 Japanese festivals, with the dates, the venue, and how to get there. WHAT YOU CAN DO Find festivals on a map Every festival pinned across Japan. Tap a region to see what is on nearby, or use the locate button to centre the map on where you are. Browse by month A calendar view showing when things happen, so "what is on while I am in Japan" takes a few seconds to answer. Search by name, place or what happens Search by festival name or by city. Descriptions are searched too, so a word like "fireworks" finds festivals whose names never mention it. Filter by type: summer festivals, mikoshi (portable shrines), bon odori dancing, traditional performing arts, food stalls, floats. Save what you want to see Keep a list of festivals you are interested in. No account needed to start. Get reminded before it starts Choose a reminder 1, 3, 7 or 14 days ahead, so a festival you were counting on does not pass while you are looking the other way. Plan the trip around it From any festival you can check rooms nearby for the actual dates, get transit directions to the venue, and find rail passes and transfers for the region. Help it grow Suggest a new festival or correct something that looks wrong. THE DATA More than 700 festivals across all 47 prefectures Dates, venues, access notes and official sites Cultural designations shown, including UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and Japan's Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties Available in English and Japanese. So which one are you going to? Wasshoi!

What's New in Wasshoi

1.1.0

October 12, 2026

Wasshoi now speaks English. Every festival name, description and travel note has been translated, and the app follows your device language - switch any time under Profile. - Search works in English, and now searches descriptions as well as names, so "fireworks" finds festivals that no English name mentions. - A locate button on the map centres it on where you are. - Cultural designations are easier to read at a glance. - Booking.com added for hotels, with Rakuten Travel's English site as the alternative. - Rail passes and airport transfers added under Getting there. - Directions to a venue are now a transit route rather than a static map. - Dates and reminders are more reliable - festivals at the end of a month were being dropped from monthly lists.
