I’m like digging this!
I have to admit that with my big ham-hands, it’s easy to hit too many notes unintentionally on an iPhone 14, but such is having a small screen. That said, it is totally impractical to haul a full mellotron around, and plugging a real one in can prove difficult at best in many instances!
But this thing sounds amazing, and plays true to the real instrument, in that there is no such thing as a sustain pedal (perhaps unfortunate while playing on a touchscreen), and the notes don’t sustain forever, because the real instrument plays a series of tape recordings that don’t sustain forever.
And in 2026, there is an extra in-app purchase of Chamberlin sounds! I forgot to add that there is an effects section, including controllable tube amp with drive and distortion, delay, and several others I can’t recall offhand. They just added the feature so that you can now use a MIDI keyboard, which is way cool. (Now for me to actually get a MIDI keyboard…!)
Granted, I’ve never seen or played a real mellotron personally, but this app is a hoot!

You should get this
If you make music on garage band and you like prog rock then this is the app for you even if you dont have the premium the 3 presets you get are cool and you can have 2 tape tracks play at the same time
Not many presets for the price
See title for review
Thank You!
iPhone Air update has corrected all issues discussed. Fingerlab also took the time to contact me! Thank You!
Too hard to miss black keys
It’s impossible to hit white keys without accidentally hitting the black keys in between. You don’t have to touch over an actual black key, the app treats everything chromatically. If you try to touch way down at the end of the key to avoid the black key, the app thinks you’re trying to close it, so the whole keyboard starts moving/trying to close the app. Unusable without some sort or other controller, which I don’t have. USELESS.

Love the app but update…
I love this app and have been using it for years. However, with the recent update AUM no longer recognizes it in any of my older projects, essentially telling me it isn’t installed even when it is. Is there a way for this app to be updated so that wouldn’t happen, as this has now damaged dozens of hours of work?

It’s amazing
Except for the fact that I need to pay to get strings, but that aside it’s a really warm and nice sound. Ripped out of the 60s.
Can't turn off app?
Generic keyboard app with no off button. I have to restart my iPhone to shut it down! Not cool!
Sounds great, but midi not working
Title tells the tale. My iPad Pro has many midi inputs (recognized by apps such as Numa Player), but this mellotron app does not see them. Can’t use it if it fails to see the available midi inputs.
Awesome.
That’s all. Good night
Simulazione ben fatta.
Ottimo lavoro.

Constantly crashes
Crashes immediately after opening. Fix this please and thanks
Great app, good sounds and nice little group of FX
This app is a solid solution for anyone looking to add a Mellotron to their instrument list. It sounds great. Definitely recommend the IAP. The FX are handy and the Envelope control is essential. Plus you get a bunch more sounds.
I love this mellow synt like moog
Really awesome project with care over the sounding. Really great ‘ ✨💫🪐🫶🏼🙌🏼
Crash town
Crashed 5 times in a row on iPhone 14 pro max. No time for weak sauce:(
thanks for fixing the incompatible in app purchase
much appreciated.
Mellowsound issue
When I open the app, I have no ability to close it and have to turn off iPhone to close it.
Awkward gaps
I love the sound on this instrument, but the downside is if the divider between the white keys is touched even slightly, it triggers the sharps or flats above them, quite a lot. In fact playing on a glass screen (iPad or iPhone) makes it useless, as it’s difficult not to get that gap avoidance perfected. I’m a 6’3” keyboard player with big hands.
This results is the odd randomised note when playing, enough to ruin the playing experience.
This bug prevents me from buying the upgrade version.
I’ve been playing (full sized) synths for over 40 years without issues, except with this app. All other synth apps I have on my devices. don’t do this.
Hence two stars.

Perfect
Fantastic app - will there be any updates in the future which feature the full array of sound cards which come with the new mellotron? Either way - perfect app and sound
