Scan feature doesn’t work after paying for premium features
Response from developer
We’re truly sorry for the frustrating experience you’ve had, especially after the scanner worked successfully before you subscribed. We completely understand how disappointing it is to purchase Premium and then have trouble using a feature you expected to work. This is not the experience we want for our users, and we’d really like the opportunity to investigate what happened and help resolve the issue. Please reach out to our support team with your account details so we can look into the scanner issue and assist you further. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We take your feedback seriously and are committed to improving Memoa.
Want to like it, but the UI design, constant loading, paywalls, and errors make it hard to enjoy
The paywalls are quite extreme. If you're a free user, you're pretty much a second-rate citizen and limited to how much you can even do MONTHLY. Which is a massive turn off for long time collectors with bigger than a shelf's worth of a collection looking to catalogue their items. But I do understand that the creator needs to fund the database servers. There is a "mentioned" 7day free trial but no where to activate it so... (There's a button that says "start trial" but in both my and my friends' experience, it doesn't work)
My first impressions upon opening the app were... not great. The UI design reads messy and honestly needs a visual upgrade. One major issue I've noticed is that it will occasionally zoom in like a web page but stay zoomed in and I can move it around like it got stuck ? The colors used in the UI all kinda clash and feel incoherent as a whole; I would much prefer an option of all white or all dark like most modern apps. Sometimes boxes will cut off or refuse to be centered. The icons used aren't aligned properly and some touch the edges of boxes while others are centered. The bottom nav bar will occasionally detach and scroll away when you scroll. And many many many many more design flaws that are either absolutely grating or just outright aggravating.
Because of this app's purpose, a design that has a more modernized minimalistic professional feel would go a LONG way in catering to collectors with visual disabilities
The design itself seems to lack a proper identity. There's 6 whole bottom tabs for navigation; a tad bit too much for the modern era. Especially considering one tab is weirdly called "Vault" and is actually just some strange Q&A forum where people answer a pre-selected prompt like its a dating profile. Not sure why that's here or why it needs a whole special tab in the bottom nav.
The menus within menus within forced tiny scroll menus give me a headache. Clicking into boxes to input information is laggy and sometimes it doesn't tell you which fields are required to submit something. The load times in EVERY action vary from 1 to 2 seconds which is quite egregious in any app or website in 2026. Especially with how often something needs to load or be loaded.
Often times when trying to add a picture of something to my collection or scan something, I'm hit with an "error" . No specifications. Just "error"
Basically put TL;DR it's got a long road before it becomes THE tool for collectors to use. I don't know if the dev is working on this solo, but I do hope one day they can afford to hire some help for some of the smaller things like UI design. From what others say, the dev has worked a lot these past couple of years to make improvements. That alone deserves a massive amount of kudos and respect. It's an app and site I WANT to love and use, but many things are still too "unfriendly" to make me want to continue using it. I may wait another couple of years of updates before trying to use it again.
That said, I give the app 2 bonus stars that bump it from a 0 because it has come a long way and its creator genuinely seems to care for the project compared to many who have come before them and tried to do the same.
Lovely app
