No longer being developed
This was a great app. Sadly the developer is no longer actively developing the app so not sure why it’s still in the App Store. This is now abandonware.
It’s a Facebook product sooo,,,
MEH…?
Simple and reliable
Ignore the fact that Metatext hasn’t been updated in two years; software doesn’t rot like a banana. This app does what it needs to do, simply and reliably.

just works smoothly.
i’ve used this for a few years at this point, and it’s always reliable, allows all the basic functions I need like adding all text to images. Tracks notifications and best of all it’s free without any spyware or adware.
Great app but
Where’s the developer go? This needs updated before it can be utilized with current fedi software
Pretty good app, although the reply function is infuriating.
Almost everything is good about this app… but I am SO used to having a button on the bottom of the screen to reply to the post I am looking at that I didn’t even know tapping the speech bubble starts a reply for *any* platform… until this one started making my replies into standalone posts! I can never remember to change how I reply until I make a mistake at least once a day!

Too difficult
I have no idea when and how I’m replying, or is it all for public broadcast? I’d jus like to do a cut and paste when I get it all wrong,
Update: Needs Update
This app used to be the best; now it won’t even load images and gives an error message when attempting to post.
A bit laggy
App has got pretty laggy since the last iOS update
Looks good but can’t translate
TL;DR—Metatext claims it’ll translate posts but if it can do so, it’s a very well-hidden feature.
I used the Mast app since I joined a Mastodon instance about four years ago, but recently Mast stopped updating my timeline and it looks like that app has been abandoned.
To replace Mast, I downloaded Metatext, and it’s worked well for me so far. However, one feature that Mast has is completely missing from Metatext: translation of posts. It’s not possible in Metatext, yet Mast had this feature from the beginning four years ago. And no, I don’t consider the “highlight text and then send it to Apple’s servers” method a valid translation mechanic nor a feature of the app.

Intuitive but unreliable
This is a lovely app to use. If you’re coming to the fediverse from another social media site, this is your gateway. Feed is simple and chronological, reactions are easy to use, DMs can be found in the usual place. Love the design - super intuitive.
However, loading the feed is very glitchy; some days I can’t see any content at all, all day! Also, only a section of the feed loads and you have to click “see more” after scrolling it, which feels archaic.
I stick with it because it’s free and easy. But if I can find something else free before the loading bug is fixed, I will move, because it is a big problem.

If you are new to mastodon, try this
The best app for mastodon ever, contains every essential feature and the UI design is minimal. And it’s for free.
I just really hope the developer can come back and update this once in a while, because sometimes the app crashes and pops up an error message.

Better than the official app, but still some work to do
Better than the official app, but still some work to do. E.g. there is no edit option, and the post character limit is hard set rather than allowing post up to the amount supported by each instance.
Great Mastodon app, but needs updated.
Been using the app for about six months, and it’s my default go-to on the iphone. But the edit function doesn’t appear or seem to work. If they fix that, this would be a five star review.
Huh ?
All I am trying to do is logout. I’ve never done that and I’m thinking maybe it might help with the glitch I’m constantly getting (Too many requests. Blah blah). Anyway. I logout but it doesn’t seem to me I’m logged out. I can use the site without being logged in ??Weird. How do I log out for real ?? And how do I fix the glitch. (Do I need to mention I’m not a techie). Thx

Simple & Great
One of the best Mastodon apps, way better than the official app.
Abandoned but good app
The GitHub is archived so no more work has been done on the app since November 2022. Good app but I wouldn’t recommend installing anymore.
No more updates
It works reliably, doesn't steal any data (unlike some, watch out) and I appreciate that it's open source, but the project isn't being updated (GitHub/metabolist is asking for volunteers to take it over). I'm going to try the official Mastodon app and compare features.
Development discontinued
This was my go-to app from November 2022 until March 2023. The last update was the month I started, so it won’t be able to keep up with the great new apps. I switched to Ice Cubes, but am about to start comparing Ivory and Mammoth. I enjoyed it while it lasted, and the features haven’t moved beyond Metatext yet, too much.
