MIDIFlute is fantastic

MIDI has for too long been stuck with piano keyboard controllers - at last wind players can use their skills and technique to play new sounds. You can't really play a flute sound on a keyboard and sound like a flute player - I love this App.

The six hole traditional flute is as simple and clean an instrument as you will find so is the perfect model to use. Flute players and whistle players can quickly adapt and make music on their iPad out loud or in headphones.

Traditional music players here have a new innovation to explore in their field - I hope many will take up this exciting new idea and blend it with their music scene. Let's look out for the first Traditional/Folk band playing instruments on iPads.

What is MIDIFlute?

MIDIFlute is a MIDI controller app for iPad that simulates the fingering of an Irish flute or whistle. It does not produce sound on its own but sends MIDI data to external hardware or software synthesizers.

How does MIDIFlute work?

It uses a touch-based fingering system on the iPad screen that mimics traditional Irish flute and whistle fingerings. Users then connect it via CoreMIDI to VST-style synthesizers or virtual instruments like Roland Sound Canvas or SampleTank.

Does MIDIFlute produce sound?

No, MIDIFlute is solely a MIDI controller. It requires connection to a separate sound-producing application or hardware to generate audio.

What are the minimum requirements for MIDIFlute?

MIDIFlute is designed for the iPad and requires disabling 'Multitasking Gestures' in iPad settings for optimal performance due to its multi-touch input needs.

Can I adjust the sound parameters with MIDIFlute?

Yes, you can adjust volume, attack velocity, vibrato depth, and MIDI channel using the on-screen sliders. The entire range can also be transposed up or down by one octave.

How often is MIDIFlute updated?
