WHEN it works, it’s fine

First off, I’m using the options to connect to my car by Bluetooth and have it to auto-record when vehicle starts moving. I have the background refresh enabled for this app and location services set to Always. The app has issues related mostly to connecting to my car and auto-detecting when I’ve started driving. Majority of the time, even though my phone connects to my car just fine, the app fails to see that it is. I’m constantly having to go into settings on the app, tracking > Bluetooth and disable and re-enable just so that it’ll connect. Besides that, I can have the app running, start driving and somewhere between 20-25 mph, it’s supposed to start recording mileage. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t. It is so inconsistent. AND, when it does work, once you’ve arrived at your destination and want to stop recording, it, it’s states along the lines that you have to disconnect the device from your car. It is stuck on the one screen and you cannot disconnect using the app. I have to turn my car off. What if I don’t want to turn car off nor disconnect my phone from car? Would it kill the devs to provide a way to force the app to stop recording? This is a design oversight and should be common sense to have implemented from the start. So very frustrating. Glad there’s a trial and not wasting my money. On a good note, the subscription plans are reasonable and probably the better one compared to others. What I did find funny is that going with 6-month plan twice is 1 cent cheaper than the 1-yr plan. Really, the 1-yr plan should be slightly cheaper per month than the 6-month plan. Another oversight with this company. Anyways, I’d rather pay a higher cost for another app if I know it actually works more consistent than this one. Maybe I’ll revisit this app in another year or two to see if it’s improved, but for now, I’m going to look elsewhere. Sorry devs. It’s just not ready.

Ouch! Thank you for your detailed feedback and review. We’ll address each of your points below: (*) Bluetooth Detection: Mileage Logbook does not support CarPlay. When CarPlay is active, iOS isolates the Bluetooth connection between the vehicle and iPhone, and does not expose state changes to third-party apps, which prevents device detection. You can test this yourself while connected to CarPlay. In your iPhone Bluetooth settings screen, you’ll see the Bluetooth connection appears as disconnected, as CarPlay takes over and isolates that connection. Also, most GPS/mileage tracker apps use the same single Bluetooth connection channel. This is a one-at-a-time connection, so if another tracking app is connected, it can override or block Mileage Logbook from receiving updates. So, you are either using Apple CarPlay or another GPS/mileage tracking app that is actively using the same Bluetooth connection channel. iOS typically allows only one active connection context at a time, which can affect detection in Mileage Logbook. (*) Manually Stop Tracking: We understand your frustration. This is currently designed this way to stop the app instantly restarting tracking while the Bluetooth connection is still active, which could otherwise cause repeated start/stop loops in the background. Turning the ignition off (which drops the Bluetooth connection) will stop the current session. (*) Subscription Pricing: Thank you for pointing this out. Our pricing structure includes monthly, 6-month, and annual plans to give users flexibility based on how long they actually want to use the app. The 6-month option is there specifically for users who don’t want to commit to a full year but also don’t want a monthly subscription. Our suggestion to resolve your issue is to use Motion & Fitness tracking or manual tracking. If Bluetooth is not the best option for some users, that’s exactly why Mileage Logbook offers different ways to record journeys. You might ask: why do I need a mileage tracker app if I still have to manually start and stop it? The answer is that the main goal of mileage tracking is hassle-free documentation and automatically updated mileage reports. Automatic tracking is just a 'nice to have' on top. Even when manual control is used, the app still handles all calculations automatically and updates mileage reports in seconds, so you always get full mileage logs and summaries without doing any manual math. Mileage Logbook is trusted by thousands of users who experience hassle-free tracking. We appreciate the detailed feedback and will continue improving the app. Mileage Team | Support

Some stuff missing

Great app but how does it know what mpg your car is?

All tracking and history vanished

All tracking and history vanished. Years lost and yet still have 9 months left on paid subscription

Simple to use but couldn’t get it to work

I really liked how easy to use this app was, and how you could manually edit a route later if it was wrong. I could never get it to track my drives automatically, and even my manually tracked drives would only record intermittently even with the phone on the dash, app running.

Keeps losing my subscription

Thinking it’s tracking my trips but it’s not. Been paying every month but it’s been logged out all the time & I have to confirm the subscription. No km tracked..

This app has been missing many of my trips

It started out well but has been poor the last 4 months

Hit and miss

Good concept for an app but accuracy isn’t quite there and it drains the battery pretty quick if you turn on the background tracking. Some journeys just don’t show up

Excellent mileage tracker

I have reviewed several apps for the iPhone and Mileage Logbook has all of the features you need to capture trip information. The Auto Bluetooth mode helps to automate the process. The reports are designed to help complete CRA tax requirements.

Not consistently working

The app has been great for close to 2 years. The last couple weeks it quits tracking for some reason. Has cost me quite a bit of money in mileage reimbursement!!!

We highly recommend updating to the latest version available on the App Store, as it includes improvements and fixes that address this issue. Misleading

Been using the manual tracking function and after 1 month I was locked out and unable to access any of my trips without purchasing a subscription. Not interested in the automatic tracking feature as I found this to be tedious and often lost trips on account of the close out process. Is a good application but plenty of other applications that offer manual tracking for free. It would be appreciated if my expense report for the month could be provided.

Hides fees

The fees are well hidden in the settings after you go through a 30 minutes setup process. I’ll save you the coding it costs $39.99 for the year. This is a shady practice and deserves the one star. These apps need to be demoted for this reason.

Response from developer

Hello - Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We understand your concern about the subscription fees, and we appreciate the opportunity to address it. We want to clarify that the subscription information is available for users who check the Pricing link on our website at https://www.mileagelogbook.com. The page clearly outlines our subscription plans. Additionally, in the Apple Store product page, if you scroll down to the bottom, you'll find the prominently highlighted words 'TRY NOW,' which leads to a message that says, 'Start your 30-day free trial today and let Mileage Logbook save you time by automatically logging your mileage and tax deduction calculations.' Moreover, our onboarding process, according to our analytics, takes approximately 3 minutes, after which users are directed to the Dashboard screen with a highlighted view saying 'Subscribe Now.' We want to assure you that our app does not intend to hide the subscription plans, and we take your accusation seriously. Regarding the need for a subscription, the costs associated with pulling to refresh, checking data, sending mileage reports, logging in, etc., involve payments to the cloud provider, which can be significant. We believe Mileage Logbook offers the best and most accurate mileage tracking with rich features compared to competitors, and our annual pricing remains cost-effective. We also offer monthly and 6-month subscription packages, with the monthly fee being no more expensive than the price of a takeaway coffee.  If you can imagine asking someone to manually log your mileage, date, odometer readings, and organise mileage reports every day for a month for the cost of a takeaway coffee, you're fortunate. We appreciate your feedback and hope this information provides more clarity. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for your understanding and consideration. Mileage Team | Support

No way to reach customer support

Apps great, I purchased the yearly subscription so it tracks your trips for you. All I have to do is batch check them all to business kms.

My issue is a just recently updated the app and it deleted all the previous financial years worth of kms and I’m in the middle of doing my taxes for last financial year. There’s no where I can see to contact the developers via email or call to try and figure out what happen. Right here on the App Store is my best bet to reach them

I don’t even know the real name of the app tbh I couldn’t find a website or anything online

Terrible!

This app used to be awesome. Now it is terrible! It used to do what you pay it to do. Now it doesn’t. I have to write down how many miles I drive.

Best I have tried

I have used about every mileage tracker in the App Store and this one is the best and I really like how everything is laid out. The interface of the program is unique and really works well. A lot of the trackers I have tried work good one day and not the next. This one seems the most consistent of the bunch. I highly recommend it. It’s great and that’s an understatement.

Automation too rigid

This app relies on tracking your trips through GPS. There is no provision to absolutely use the odometer readings only to complex for simple, mileage logging.

Tracker

Load off rubbish charge for it
That only works when it feels like it !lost 100s off miles off unrecorded miles thanks to this app
Won’t be renewing anytime soon

App started to malfunction

The app won’t load after I took out a subscription

Outstanding app for your Tax!

Great app. Exactly what I have been looking for.

Thank you Mileage

I have been using this app for the last 2 weeks with auto Bluetooth mode and I have just subscribed today. The app is quite user friendly, easy to use and tracks my trips accurately. Also, I really liked its low power mode feature. For me this is the best mileage tracker app in the Apple Store. 5 star from me. Ohh I forgot to mention, the support team is brilliant. Thank you mileage team.
