Amazing App

If you're a music enthusiast like me, and like getting deep into how your favourite bands created your favourite albums, this is definitely the app for you.

Essencial

Nul!

Response from developer

Pour consulter les crédits d’un morceau spécifique, vous devez accéder au morceau.

OK

No producer or personnel information for albums that I’m looking for. Information seems incomplete.

Music Credits

Best app for music credit lovers!

Disappointing

I was hoping, particularly as my older iPhone is not upgradable to iOS 18, that MusicSmart would give easy access to lists of sidemen, etc. I paid for a month’s access to check out its full capability, and found that, at least within the jazz listings, that very few of them have anything remotely close to a full listing of personnel, which is surprising, because the company says that it uses Discogs as one of its sources, and all of that info is listed there.

Big promises, mediocre delivery

Checked a few classical albums: worthless.

Checked some pop musicians. Not quite so bad, but far from useful

Probably why they don’t offer a 3-day trial. I wouldn’t have wasted $1.99 to discover the obvious.

Just checked Discogs. FAR better…and free.

Just Apple & Spotify?

Why are Apple Music and Spotify the only streaming services that can connect to MusicSmart? I have had this app for many years and have never really used it. When I downloaded it I was using Spotify so ut has a record (pardon the pun) of what I had in my library there. I then switched to Apple Music when they first started up (2014?). I was with Apple for a very long time. Long enough to discover that they had a cap on the number of songs you could have in your library (that number is 100,000 btw). Well, I hit 100k relatively quickly (about 2 years). I hobbled along, deleting old stuff to make way for new stuff for a couple more years until I finally had had enough. I quit Apple and switched to YouTube Music. I have been very happy them. Until something like this happens, and it happens more than I would like! So do you have a way I can connect your app to YTM? I would really appreciate it!

Very limited

For all of the classical albums I tried, this had no more than the basic credits already available on Apple Music. No reason for me to pay extra for this.

Disappointing

The information with this website is so basic. You will get more in depth information from Wikipedia! This app only lists the minimum information. I want to know who is playing what instrument, I hoped there would be some back story or liner notes but nope.

Outstanding voiceover, accessibility, and documentation

Well, the App Store ate my original review. But there’s nothing else like this on the App Store. One of the tips in Help said that if you’re listening to the song, you can find a podcast where that song or artist is mentioned. Continuous play works by after you hit now playing it will automatically pull up all information available as you’re listening. You can customize what information is shown about an album under sections in the app settings. And all of these features are free. I just feel that real efforts have been made to make this app accessible and easy to use. Music Harbor is also a fantastic app.
I agree with the person that bemoaned the loss of the original information from the vinyl album covers. But if it hasn’t been digitized in catalog, there’s nothing that can be done to ever get that back.

Don’t waste your money

Liner notes? Fat chance! I’ve found more info on Wikipedia than I’ve EVER found here…

Great App!

Love this app! Brings me back to when I bought physical copies of albums and would spend time going through all the lyrics and liner notes to find little nuggets of guest appearances, writers and all the other fun facts you would find. It was something I genuinely missed in this digital age of music. Thanks for creating this app!

Doesn't give enough time to evaluate before buying

I clicked 1 album and then I was blocked, I closed it immediately not knowing this would be my only chance to see what the apps is about. The next day I had another trial and that's it. Know I cannot see anything even after reinstalling the app. I am NOT buying a 25$ app when I couldn't even take 10mins to see if it even interests me.

LINER NOTES? WE DON’T NEED NO STINKING LINE NOTES!

Yes we do! That’s what I thought I was getting. The words “Liner Notes” are below the name of this app. To me, Liner Notes are what is inside the record jacket, on the record sleeve or on the back of the record jacket. Sometimes there wasn’t much but sometimes there were comments by the artists, types of instruments used including amps, pedals, strings, cymbals and even golf clubs. Sometimes there was funny stuff, jabs at other musicians or even song lyrics. There was front cover art. There was back cover art and if you were lucky enough to get a double album there was double notes and art work. I checked before I wrote this and there are no real liner notes here. No inside art, no back cover art, No notes, The explanations included are just there to take up space. Example; Songwriter. A person who writes the song. I’ll keep hoping for change but I wish I had just tried the 1 Month trial before going all in.

MusicSmart draws on multiple online sources and databases to gather liner notes and credits, so the amount of detail available can vary from song to song.

Waste of money

At least for classical NO LINER NOTES. nothing beyond that which apple gives

Terrible Update Bricks an Awesome App

MusicSmart had been one of my favorite apps and really enhanced my listening pleasure of Apple Music. Then there was an update several weeks ago, and now all I get is the writer and the producer of each song. No longer is there a detailed breakdown of who played what instrument on a song and that’s the main reason I bought this app. Now if I want to know that info, I have to go back to Wikipedia, just like I did before buying this app. Total fail!

A little gem polished to shine!

I'm obsessed with tracking music stats, and MusicSmart has it all. I can see how my favorite artists are doing on the charts and read album reviews.

A little gem that should be integrated in every music App
