Shouldn’t Have Updated

The update looks nice. Seems to run faster and it’s a cleaner interface, if less script-focused. The beta was buggy but forgivable because it was free, now all the features are locked behind a paywall and unfortunately $100 a year means it’s not meant for this poor actor.

Didn’t like my script formatting

I’m in a musical where the lyrics are all in caps and centered while dialogue is in the “Characters: Line” format.

It detected the song lyrics as character names and all the dialogue as stage direction which it skips. It would be nice if on import you could specify how your script is formatted (optionally) and it would be nice to toggle reading stage direction off and on. Seems like a good app but it won’t help me on this one. Bummer.

Great!

I’ve been trying to find an app for AGES that will just read the other lines for me, it’s been surprisingly difficult to find that and doesn’t make me pay for it. It takes some time to get started, but this app is super helpful after you’ve done all that plus it’s free. It lets you change the voices and has delays for your lines so you can read them. This app is perfect and just what I was looking for :)

Hey there! Thanks for the review! A redesign is coming soon which will have a pay gate, but the gate is more for the premium features that professional actors would need like self taping and unlimited scripts. Hope you tell your friends about the app!

The best feature-packed line memorization app

I’ve tested every line memorization app, and trust me, there are a ton of them. My two favorites are LineLearner and this one. I’ve recently switched to this app because it offers almost every feature I could want – incredible AI voices, speed controls, ability to show the first letters of each word, intelligent cue detection and auto-playing, cast collaboration, etc. The developer has also been very responsive to my messages. And best of all, there are no recurring subscriptions. Who wants another subscription?

As amazing and feature-packed as this app is, I still keep the simple LineLearner app around because of one thing – it’s reliable and failsafe.

I love MyLine and will recommend it to every actor I know – this despite the many crashes and issues I ran into using it. The features are just so good, and I found ways around most of the issues I had.

It was confusing to learn how to import lines and set up scenes in the way the app wants them, but once I was shown by the developer how to do it, it was a breeze. I still wish there was a faster way to import lines via speech and transcription. Right now it takes multiple taps per line to make that happen. The app crashes frequently when I press the “previous cue” button multiple times in a row to go back several lines. I found a workaround by pausing the audio, scrolling back, selecting where I wanted to start, and playing again.

On very short lines, the AI voice often misses the first word or two or doesn’t read it out at all. There’s also not an option to hear your line read back after a gap, so you have a chance to recite it and then hear it.

There’s also no CarPlay app or Mac version to sync up with. The interface could use improvement, but I’m told a redesign is on the way.

All in all, get this app. Everything you’ll love about it will make up for every frustration you’ll find.

Hi! Thanks for your review! I am working on a redesign which will be out very soon (though unfortunately it will come with a subscription...). a lot of issues are being fixed in the new version. I'll take a look at your previous cue bug!

Full of bugs

It adds scanned pages multiple times, doesn’t identify even simple words when scanned, erases audio settings randomly and won’t let me fix them, won’t select voices for different characters, overall very difficult to use. Wouldn’t recommend!!!

Response from developer

Hi Mike! I'm sorry you didn't have a great experience with the app. Scanning pages is definitely a tricky area which we are working on improving. When you say it erases audio settings randomly and won't let you fix them, I'm not sure what you mean. It also has a pretty robust system for selecting different voices for different characters (both in the run audio menu as well as when you edit the characters). As far as the difficult to use, we are working on making it more intuitive. At the same time, there are a ton of features and making each feature hidden until the user wants it is a tricky process. But we're working on it. Hopefully you can find an app that serves your needs and I hope you give MyLine another chance!

This is an excellent app

My daughter started acting two years ago, and I used to act myself (these days I work behind the camera). I looked at a number of apps to help actors learn their lines. There are plenty, but MyLine came out on top. The interface may feel a little basic, but it has everything actors actually need. It’s easy to use, intuitive, and thoughtfully designed.

Hi Robert! Thanks so much! It's always a challenge hide features until the users actually need them, while also making it possible for them to find them. We're working on an app redesign which should hopefully make it more intuitive! Glad you're finding use from the app!

Not a good app

This app won’t play the lines of other characters. It starts in the middle of the scene instead of the beginning. I would not recommend

Response from developer

Hi there, I'm sorry you've had a bad experience with the app. By default, the app starts at your first cue rather than at the beginning of a script as there are many scripts where your first line is in the middle of the script rather than at the beginning. You can change that, of course, in the settings (and you can choose for each script whether it starts at the beginning of the script, at your first cue or on the last played line). I'm not sure what's going on with your experience with it not playing the lines of the other characters. It sounds like there was some issue with it not importing correctly. If you send me the script, I would be happy to help you get the import set up so that it can play the other characters' lines.

Really helpful

4.5 stars

Super helpful helping me memorize lines for a ten minute scene I have to do in my acting class. One feature I think would be useful is for lines to be muted, then audible, so you can check that you’ve said them correctly. Currently, they only have so lines are audible, then muted. Other than that, this is a great app.

Hey there, thanks for the feedback! One feature I'm planning is for the app to actually keep track of when you make a mistake on a line (via the listening feature) so that you will be able to run lines which have a high percentage of mistakes. But I'll keep the muted, then audible feature request in mind! Glad you're enjoying the app!

Not Bad

I get the repetition easily!

Awesome!

Game Changer

I'm an actor in the UK, returning to the professional stage after 37 years and learning the lines for the massive part of Vladimir in Waiting for Godot.

The MyLine app has made the job so much easier and dare I say enjoyable.

The 'listening' function for running lines seems to be unique among these apps and is a game changer.

Great line learning app

Brilliant for learning long scenes - way too underrated as a memorisation app and the Ui is fabulous. Would be even more great if a Scene Index per script was made clearer. Currently using a new ‘script’ for each scene which still works well.

Really helpful,

I have found this app really easy to navigate and perfect for rehearsing lines and self tapes. I really like being able to choose different voices and it has made the whole self taping process so much smoother especially when on the road!

Screen size issues

I have an iPhone X which I presume has a narrower screen than newer models. The app doesn’t allow for that and consequently some buttons and options (for eg. recording lines) are hidden offscreen. Rotating doesn’t really help as that cuts off the ‘top’ of the screen!

That aside, it appears very handy.

5 star app though there is a problem with AirPod pros.

The app its self is amazing, it has everything you want from a script reader, there is just one pain of a problem, when using AirPods the volume doesn’t seem to work. When I turn the volume down, it doesn’t work. I really don’t know why.

Great app!

Have learned lines the hard way for years, now this makes it 1000 times easier. Super easy to use, quick and simple. Strongly recommend.

Great app, great features, SUPERB support

I tried this app after looking for something to reverse and record my lines as an actor. I get sent sections of a script in which I need to record lines and send back. I found this app made it easy to import/create the script, but didn’t let me export the audio I created. I sent an email to support, not really expecting much, but got an email back within a couple hours saying they added the feature and they worked with me to get it working how I liked within a few days! Excellent! They also say they are happy to help other add in features to enhance their use of it. Brilliant service I wish others adopted!

Love it !

I got recommended this app by a staff who helped me with final project and this was soo helpful !

Scan page doesn’t work

Tried this app - scanned the pages of the script but it doesn’t recognise the characters names or scan the words properly. It’s a great idea and would be perfect for my needs but unfortunately it just doesn’t work
