Fab for amateurs and oldies
Love reading about nature, photographing and observing it, watching nature docos? Though long retired I can finally participate in recording nature via this app. Our sightings help us understand the current state of our natural world. They support scientific study of vulnerable and endangered species.
But be warned. It’s a very addictive pastime. You might find yourself, rambling for hours in the bush, around your neighbourhood or local reserves, missing the afternoon soapies, getting fit, using your brain feeling a sense of purpose, being part of a talented and supportive community of citizen scientists.Doing something that might improve the world for your grandchildren. Highly recommended.

Brilliant app for nature lovers
The app’s usability has come leaps and bounds since this Canberra start-up began in 2013. It is a testament to Aaron and his small team who work tirelessly to provide this homegrown, Australian service!
Great app
A great way to record and learn. Moderators are prompt at confirming your record or indicating the correct id if you’ve got it wrong.
Citizen science at its best
I found this is an amazingly easy to use app as a budding citizen scientist. I can upload photos or audio recordings of all the plants and animals in my region. Would recommend this app to everyone.
Finger tip knowledge
Nature Mapr has been so helpful to improve my plant and animal identification! I have used it to try and collate a biodiversity database of places I work and where I live. My local landcare group have used it to map an urban forest and have id’d over 1000 species of plant and animal! Keep on kicking goals Nature Mapr!

Best citizen science app
Nature Mapr is my favourite way to spend my down time. I love to learn the animals and plants in my garden but also to collect images of plants and animals while out hiking. I have advanced degrees in environmental science but have learnt so much about the environment from this app! Its so easy to use and I love it that the information I collect can positively influence the outcomes of species in Australia.

Citizen science at its best
I’ve been using NatureMapr for several years now and am in awe of the quality of this app and the work that has gone into making it what it is. It is so great the data we collect is now feeding into so many decision making points in govt to improve our natural environment and the critters and plants that live there. Thank you to all involved.

Fun + citizen science at its finest
I love using this app, I contribute sightings of endangered gang gang cockatoos in my neighbourhood whenever I can. It’s easy to use and helps the birds! Would be a fantastic activity for kids to do, like ‘Pokémon Go’ but in real life. It helps me take notice of my surroundings and be more aware of the flora and fauna that surround us even in the city. A fantastic app.

A great service
I work for NM which does make me bias but here are the facts. We are an Australian business which invests time in the communities that use our service. All the records we process are kept in Australia. Our data quality assurance is trusted by Federal govt. because of our moderator workflow process. This is backed up by a simple, easy to use mobile app and a constantly evolving website, a place where you can communicate with fellow users.

Lbradley
NatureMapr is doing great things for Australia. Things like Land Libraries give us a great insight into our unique biodiversity and the ecological communities that are so important as we try to do our best to adapt to climate change. NatureMapr has ties into government agencies and has an important part to play in helping us identify where invasive species are found and how we can use limited resources to get the best result for our environment. The app is easy to use - you can take photos directly via the app or upload from the photos on your phone. You can input the species if you know it, or you can have a guess and one of the expert moderators will let you know for sure what you have discovered. Give it a try!
