Great service, crummy app
I think the service itself is good competition for YouTube for those who enjoy video essays and other thoughtful, scripted content. I think the profit sharing program and the fact that this service has creators by invitation only is a positive thing for the world, and I’m happy to support it.
The app is not great. It’s gotten a bit better over the years, but it’s unreliable, and it just doesn’t feel like it’s designed to be used the way I want to use it, in a few ways.
For me, the biggest issue is that it decenters individuals content creators. YouTube’s app has a dedicated tab for channels I follow. This tab has a bar at the top that shows a list of all them, and most of the rest of the screen is a feed for viewing their videos in the order of recency of release. If I tap on a channel individually, it’ll show me just *their* videos in said feed. It’s a quick and easy place to check, to see if there’s anything new from anyone whose work I follow. On Nebula, there is simply nothing like this. It’s designed seemingly to encourage users to watch content the Nebula staff thinks we should watch, and for people who fly often (seriously, putting a dedicated tab for DOWNLOADS on the main screen?!)
This app desperately needs to borrow a bit more from the YouTube one’s design.

Great idea, great execution!
Great app for a great streaming service! This app does everything I wish YouTube would, and just works like you expect. Give your money directly to the creator owned / creator run service!
Love it

Crazy Lag
I bought a year subscription to this app to support a channel I like and it’s crazy laggy. I’ve been watching a video for 20 minutes and I’ve spent 10 minutes buffering. It stops every 30 sec- 1 minute completely to buffer, and it jutters a lot in between. And because the streaming is so laggy, the video quality is AWFUL. It’s not my wifi- Netflix, Hulu, Plex, Youtube, and Apple have streamed without issue. I’ve never had such a bad streaming experience right off the bat. I’m thinking of asking for a refund it’s so bad.

It’s nice. It has a lot of great educated stuff.
I’ve seen many of my favorite Youtubers often talk about Nebula, today I decided to check it out and I really liked it. Also found some other stuff in there as well, like I said this is mostly just educational but it’s really great and I highly recommend it if you’re into that stuff.
Great content, app lets it down
Love the content and it’s definitely worth it but the app completely lets down the service the lack of video queuing and recommendation algorithm ruins the experience to the point I winter subscribing again next year.
I can hardly express how much I enjoy nebula.
As someone who mainly uses content as a substitute for access to rooms with intelligent voices, I love nebula. As a black man F.D. Signifier has been a huge influence on my life coming out of my teens. As a creative, Tale Foundry has done so much to keep me thinking about stories and writing them and why I love them so much. I really can’t put to complete words what it means to access a more unfiltered version of some of my favorites and discover so many more that have helped me learn so much. It feels genuinely safe in a way that other services just don’t anymore.
TLDR; Thanks Nebula, and shoutout to F.D. Signifier and Tale Foundry.
P.S. I’m not sure if Overly Sarcastic Productions are on the radar, but they seem like they’d fit right in at Nebula.

Definitely recommend!
A few older reviews from a year or two complaining about a buggy app that is hard to navigate but as a new user I have never found this to be an issue! Content is very high quality and I would definitely recommend. It gives me back the experience I want from something like YouTube whilst helping support creators.

Great content, glitchy app
I love the content, creators, and spirit of Nebula, but this is the glitchiest app I’ve ever used. It seems like it’s something different every day, but I routinely have issues with certain videos being incompatible with AirPlay, videos not fast forwarding when I move the progress bar, the app not correctly marking which videos I’ve seen, and more. Please invest more in your back end so that I can spend less time restarting the app every 10 minutes and more time watching videos!

Needs Force Resolution
I really enjoy nebula. In fact i bought it specifically to watch Mustard videos which i don’t regret at all. But the tv all and in my phone does not allow me to choose a resolution i want toforce it to. This needs to be fixed!
Best I’ve felt on a platform, UI and search challenges that need to be addressed.
This is one of the most ethical and decent platforms. The pricing is so reasonable and it gives me access to the kind of education and edutainment that I’m looking for. Unfortunately they still have many mobile UI difficulties, especially on the tablets. It’s infuriating because I want to give this 5-stars for its treatment of creators. There’s a level of search that’s expected in a video platform these days, and Nebula has a long way to go. But stick around to support it, my final opinion is: GET IT! It’s incredible just hiccups that need to be resolved asap.

My favorite streaming platform!
All of my favorite long-form content in one place, ad-free, without the distractions of YT Shorts or other suggested videos.
YouTube can suck it
High quality videos, great variety of topics, and my subscription helps support a great streaming service
Content ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ UI ⭐️
This app and all associated versions (chromecast/iPad/iPhone) has to be one of the worst apps I’ve ever used. Considering it’s a paid for platform and supports creators I really love it’s such a shame that being able to watch anything on it is nearly impossible. The casting function is unreliable and drops out incredibly frequently, and when trying the app for my chromecast it freezes and closes the app on its own all the time. Considering this is meant to be a good alternative to YouTube they really need to work on the user experience.

Good but could be great
For the love of god, some creators have so many videos. You need to include more options to sort through the videos, not just the newest: by view count, oldest, etc
Optional Opinion
It may be made of mostly Youtubers but here they can post videos without getting snuffed by greedy google’s tasteless algorithms.
Solid but needs more creators
App works great the price is extremely fair. Only issue is sometimes you just can’t find videos related to what you want to watch
My favorite streaming service
As someone who loves history, geopolitics, science, and music, but struggles with reading comprehension, Nebula has provided me with access to trusted information. I have learned so much for what feels like so little in retrospect. I love Reel life lore, it’s my favorite, seconded by Joe Scott and his team, third is Maxinomics, I could go on and on. I can’t tell them how much I appreciate them directly so I will leave a review, and I never do that. To all the creators with such integrity, thank you!!!

It's mid
I paid for this on accident and decided that I would take the opportunity to just see if I like this app as an alternative to YouTube (youtube gets 1 star btw), and while I appreciate not being tortured with commercials I just don't really care for this platform much. About the only real benefit is that you see some videos a few days early, but I work three jobs and I am really busy just trying to prevent myself from being homeless so that doesn't mean much for me. The fact that the videos I see are the same ones I see on Youtube is just terrible. Why have I seen a tier list recommend to me? I hated that trend on YouTube and I hate seeing it here. And unlike on YouTube I cannot say that I don't want to see it, it's always right there begging me to watch it when I'm not interested. I assume that's because the number of options is orders of magnitude less than are available on Youtube, but that does not make me want to watch a boring tier list at all. That trend was lame when it was actually popular years ago, and now it's just boring and lazy.
There's not enough content, and what content is available is going to insist upon itself no matter how disinterested you are in it, and there's no way to leave feedback about what you actually want to see. I can appreciate the mission of this platform but you're not going to get anywhere if you're boring, and nebula is just as boring as YouTube, only in different ways. Why can't anyone just make a good streaming app?
