Decent

I like the clean interface but it’s use is very limited for me. For example, even as I’m typing this review, it’s got a glitch and is showing white text on a white background. So I can’t actually see what I’m typing. This sort of thing happens occasionally in this app. Sometimes an input box will fail to show up so I have to go back and then reselect the notes or whatever so that it reloads the screen and hopefully shows the input. Also, it’s especially limited because only gmail and exchange calendars show, so my subscribed calendars and iOS calendars aren’t visible in this app. Promising but limited for me.

When Apple Watch Widget?!

Great app. Sometimes has problems syncing multiple calendars (especially more so when a meeting has been canceled). But really needs an Apple Watch complication!

Doesn’t have support for iCloud or Outlook Calendars.

I use Fantastical/Flexbits but I wanted to take a look at Newton Calendar to try and consolidate my spending each year.

I use iCloud for my calendar and it isn’t supported. Says in the FAQ “coming soon” but that could mean anything.

1 star for being available on Apple and not accepting/utilizing iCloud Calendar. App looks nice and I’m sure it functions ok but I can’t use it.

Rarely works

Terrible now. App hasn’t updated in a year. Won’t refresh. Stay away

Beautiful but buggy

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ UX
This app is beautiful and easy to use. The UX is mostly great. Adding events is easy with some nice AI to interpret dates and time to speed up the process.

⭐️⭐️ for bugs
There are several bugs that have persisted for months on end.
Syncing problems: Syncing requires opening the app. I get notifications for events that no longer exist and haven’t for days or weeks. Sometimes canceled or deleted events don’t go away at all.
Setting a location is a feature but somehow has never worked. It will show locations that were added outside of this app, though.

Missing common features:
- Cannot move events between calendars
- Years later, still cannot sync iCloud account

Don’t get me wrong. I have mad respect for the Newton team. I realize Newton has been though rough a rollercoaster ride over the years, shutting down, coming back, and then all over again. I get that the mail app is the core product that should regained lost ground first. But the state this app is in has made it almost unusable compared to the standard iCal app. It’s been almost a year without any updates. The syncing issues are the dealbreaker for me. If I can’t reliably see what’s in my calendar, even after manually syncing from opening the app (as opposed to watching notifications), then I can’t really rely on it to tell me what my day holds. So until this gets revamped, I’m moving back to iCal.

Warming up. Please wait...

I never made it past that loading screen. I waited and waited and waited and waited but it never opened.

Unethical, repeatedly price gouge

Purchased a recurring subscription on sale, advertised as being for-life. Newton then decided to "shut-down" for a month and then relaunch and not honor that deal because it had "shut-down". Highly deceptive and unethical business practice that shows they don't care at all about their early loyal users or to adhere to offers they've made.

No Apple Watch app

This calendar and the mail app seem fine but they lack an Apple Watch app. I don’t know why I would continue using this without being able to check what my next meeting is on my watch.

Crashes constantly

I paid for subscription and at first couldn’t be happier. As time went on the app keeps crashing and doesn’t send out the invites to attendees when it does my notes in the invite get sent out as gibberish . Regret paying for the app

Crashes

The app no longer launches. It opens and says please wait, warming up and never launches. Unusable.

Easy to use

Really nice UI, smooth, would be 5 star if let’s you set up auto-conferencing option (google hangouts link)

App is great. Sadly, no Apple Watch app.

This application doesn’t rely on the iOS system to gather it’s data. Therefore, it’s accurate when other apps’ data are stale. I rely on it to be the most up-to-date version of my calendar. The only downside is that there is no Apple Watch app. I hope it gets added soon!

Needs more views.

One single thing that makes calendar apps great, is the ability to view your appointments and days in different views. Something Newton lacks.

A list view of all upcoming appointments for the next week, 30 days and year would be amazing. But right now, Newton isn’t useable. There are too many other better calendars out there.

As for mail. Newton does mail right.

Still needs a lot of work

This is a nicely designed app. I downloaded it due to already using Newton. But this app lacks a weekly or monthly view. There are already much more functional calendar apps on the market. This app needs some serious work. Now that Newton is back perhaps they will be able to develop this app to be more functional.

Glad Newton is back, but...

Can we please get a watch complication? I'm a paid (again) subscriber of Newton and choose to stay within your family of apps, but using your new source of funds to further development of the calendar app (Mac support?) would be a great move for long-time supporters.

Missing key features

I know that desired features are subjective, but many key features are missing from this app. To me this is unacceptable when the app exists behind a subscription pay wall.

The app has only one view, and it’s a schedule view. This view makes it really tough to see when you’re double booked or how much free time you have between events.

The calendar indicators aren’t prominent enough. I’m talking about the colored dots that indicate to which calendar an event belongs. It’s hard to see, at a glance, when an event belongs to me or another team calendar that I monitor.

The “notes” section truncated Google calendar invites that contain Meet or Hangout video conference details. The stock iOS calendar app includes them. The net effect is that I can’t join Google video conferences from this app. This is a significant hinderance.

Finally, there’s no visual indicator to show where you are in your day chronologically. Just now I launched the app at 9:51 and it started in the morning of the current day. That’s annoying.

All of these result in a huge miss for me and add to the growing list of Newton releases that add no value, in my opinion.

Needs major work

This could be a great calendar app with some simple updates. The biggest is a smart date and location recognition feature. There are too many steps to entering a calendar event. Because of this and the constant app crashes, it gets 1 star. Just by adding the smart recognition, it would
Boost this app to 4 stars. Really disappointed considering the Newton mail app is amazing. Looks like they put all of their time and resources into the mail app and not the calendar.

Crashes!

Calendar app crashes when hitting plus/add calendar event button. Thinking I’ll just use the standard IOS calendar. Disappointed

Solid Calendar App That Does The Basics Well

I love that i don’t have to rely on fetch for my Google calendar updates. It’s a downside of many calendar apps on iOS that rely on system settings that no longer allow google push notifications, this app navigates around that problem beautifully.

I’m also very fond of the UI! At first it struck me as simple, but the more I used it I realized it added a beauty and elegance to its design. The fully expanded widget is my favorite calendar widget I’ve used on iOS.

I’ve seen some say they don’t like the icon because it doesn’t look like a calendar app. I think the newton mail app and the calendar app side by side complement each other and add a sense of continuity between them. It makes me happy that they are two separate apps so they can brighten up my home screen like that!

There is always room for improvement in any app. The one thing I would suggest presently is the ability to set custom notification times within the app and not just from the drop down of preselected options. But overall keep up the great work!

Good potential, lacking execution

Nice design, but lacking in execution. The colors of my calendars are nowhere near the same as they are on all of my other calendars. Just let the user set their own colors. Problem solved. Also, calendar invites in Newton do not seem to work and open up this calendar app anymore. More frequent updates might be nice. Also, it would be great if you let your users know what features you’re working on, what is planned, and what has been completed. We do pay for a subscription, so not keeping your users in the dark would be great!
