About
NICE is a habit-accountability app that flips the script on positive reinforcement.
Most habit apps shower you with confetti and pep talks. NICE doesn't. It sits beside you with a quiet, deadpan voice — a Drill Sergeant, a Disappointed Mom, Your Ex, Your Future Self, or Your Manager — and reminds you of the contract you signed with yourself this morning.
It's a behavioral-economics experiment in app form. Every mechanic maps to research, not vibes:
• Loss Aversion (Kahneman & Tversky). Completion isn't celebrated; missing is what gets framed as the loss. "Didn't lose today" lands harder than "great job."
• Implementation Intentions (Gollwitzer). Habits are written as if-then contracts: "After work → Put on workout clothes by 8pm." The trigger is mandatory.
• Commitment Devices (Ariely / Thaler). At habit creation, you pick a self-penalty that activates if you fold: tomorrow's intensity bumped, an extra midday reminder, or the widget pinned to your lock screen until you complete it.
• Accountability Effect. Choose one of five personas — each with a distinct voice, written by hand, hundreds of lines deep. The accountability is structured, opt-in, and revocable at any time.
NICE is intentionally uncomfortable. The discomfort is the mechanism, not a side effect. Try one persona for a full week before deciding it's not for you — that's what the research says about real behavior change.
What you get:
• Five hand-written personas (Drill Sergeant, Disappointed Mom, Your Ex, Future You, Your Manager) — English/Korean for each
• Home-screen widget showing your 14-day track record
• Local notifications timed to your deadlines — no cloud, no servers
• Per-habit commitment device (you choose the cost of folding)
• One-tap completion with a 1.5-second "I'll let you off today" verdict from your chosen persona
What you don't get:
• An account or sign-in (there is none)
• Servers (there are none)
• Analytics or tracking (there is none)
• Streak gamification or social features
Your habits, your history, your intensity, your persona — all stay on your device. NICE has nothing to upload because NICE collects nothing.
