What's New in Night Sky 4K

A brand-new planetarium, and a night sky that's truly yours. A whole new planetarium • More than 9,000 real stars shine in their true colors, and the brightest ones are named. All 110 Messier objects are here too: galaxies, star clusters and glowing nebulae, each drawn in its own style. The Milky Way stretches overhead with its bright star clouds and dark dust lanes. Stars twinkle low in the sky, and during a meteor shower you'll catch shooting stars streaming from the right spot. Soft hills line the horizon, so it feels like standing outside on a clear night. Find anything in the sky • Open the planetarium menu and choose Find in the Sky. Search for Vega, the Andromeda Galaxy, M42 or simply "North Star", and the view glides straight to it. A card shows where to look, when it rises or sets, whether you'll need binoculars and a little about what you're seeing. Not sure where to start? Worth a Look Tonight lists what's up from your location right now. Zoom in and explore • Press Play/Pause to go from the whole sky down to a binocular view. All 88 constellations are labeled, and names never pile up on top of each other. The planetarium also respects Reduce Motion and works with VoiceOver. See the sky from where you actually are • Choose your city from 175 locations worldwide, and sunrise, sunset, visible planets and ISS passes are all worked out for your spot. If your Apple TV can't tell where you are, Night Sky lets you know and helps you set it in a couple of clicks. ISS alerts you can really see • You'll only hear about passes that are visible from your location, with the day, the time and which way to look, like "Tomorrow 9:41 PM, rising in the northwest." When there's nothing to spot for a while, the app tells you why. A truer Moon • Moon phases now fall on the right day, and the Moon in the planetarium shows its real shape: a half moon looks like a half moon. It also sits exactly where you'd see it in the actual sky. Always fresh, even after days on screen • ISS passes, NASA's Picture of the Day, upcoming launches and aurora conditions now refresh on their own. Aurora readings show how recent they are, and the launch list loads more reliably. Sky events on the right date • Equinoxes, solstices and moon phases are calculated for each year instead of being fixed dates. Smoother sound • Music fades cleanly between scenes, volume always responds, and the Tonight's Sky tour never leaves your music turned down. Ready for tvOS 27 • Night Sky runs great on the latest Apple TV software. Plus many smaller fixes that make the app faster and more reliable.
