Awesome developer!

I have tried to learn a few instruments over the years, but have always been bound to chord charts or tabs. My dad plays by ear, and I have always wanted to speak his language. So when I acquired a stand up bass last weekend, I purposed to learn it differently. It has been so hard!!! But I know if I break down and switch to tabs, I might play songs sooner, but I won’t actually know how to speak the language of the bass.

So I downloaded a bunch of ear training apps and started digging into the lessons. This one is by far the most fun and effective!

I started to run into trouble though. The exercises were set up for a bass guitar, which is easier to play further up the neck than a stand up bass is (for a beginner anyway) So asked the developer if it be possible to change the setting for how many frets are included for practice to a lower number. And I’ll be danged! He actually responded (his name is Nick) and he did it! So now I can focus my practice on fewer positions (that’s what they call it on a stand up because it’s fretless) while I learn proper hand shape and gain strength and all that fun stuff. I love this app!

Sorry to hear it - I‘d be very grateful to hear more about it at nick@nosheet.app

My fave music learning app

App has great ways to explore and better understand the connections between hearing notes and playing them on your instrument, in ways that make sense harmonically and scale-wise. There is a lot to explore here and I feel like I’ve just begun to scratch the surface. Def recommend.

I’ve been looking for something like this!

I’ve been using NoSheet to work on playing within chords on my baritone ukulele (DGBE tuning), and it’s been genuinely transformative — the real-time pitch recognition and ear-training approach is a completely different (and better) way to learn than the tab-and-drill apps I’ve tried.

What really stood out: I emailed the developer asking about DGBE tuning support, and he added it within two days. That kind of responsiveness is rare.

Highly recommend for anyone serious about learning to hear and play music, not just memorize shapes.

Excellent app for ear training

I really have enjoyed using this app. I have been using since 4 months now and has been the only one that mixes music theory and guitar in a way that really helps me to learn and apply it. Kudos to the devs for all fixes and new features

Sheety

Even after I subscribe it keeps bugging me to subscribe.

Response from developer

Hi, sorry about this, the issue has been fixed. Hope you’ll give NoSheet another chance :)

Love it but

Some users will need time to hit the notes and answer in between hearing the notes. It’s just impossible to do it quick on the guitar. So I just tap it on the screen but then even on the screen, I’d answer correct and it still doesn’t take it. So it can be a bummer. Otherwise great concept I did enjoy it just the challenges part just has a short window to answer I think. Idk I’m probably just slow🤷🏻‍♀️ ill come back and hopefully there’s a bit time to answer or at least read the note correct when it’s actually correct!

Hi, thanks for your review! NoSheet has several untimed games where playing speed isn’t an issue. I assume the input evaluation issues arose because the timing system wasn’t explained clearly enough - the newest release contains a detailed explainer of this, if you’re willing to give NoSheet another chance :)

Oops

Just bought and notice that the app is glitchy- the interval match game shows root, third, and octave. Tones to match are root and second- no way to match.
Feedback ‘arrow’ doesn’t work…
(Dev team- I’ve got a screen recording of the glitch if you’re interested)

Response from developer

Hi Jon, we've fixed the feedback button thanks to your message, but are struggling to reproduce the interval matching issue - seems to work as expected on our end. Are you talking about the introductory 'intervals' game, or the chromatic 'interval dance' game? Is your instrument tuned/intonated regularly? Cheers, Nick

Fun and Educational!

The gamified experience makes learning music theory fun. It is challenging at first, but with repetitions you learn how to maximize the benefit of the app. Will be keeping this app in my routine and looking forward to further updates!

Thanks for your review, enjoy!

Just getting started

Just getting started, it’s good so far. Just trying to get the hang of it. Seems a good game. I like trying to find the right note with my ear

Not working on iPad Pro

I signed up for the free trial, but sadly not working with my 2024 iPad Pro. Crashes out after the splash screen.

Can’t use

A display came in the screen while using the app “we need to authenticate you to ward off sneaky cost-cutters” … does not make sense. Restarted the app many times but could not get past that. Deleted. Strange stuff.

Response from developer

Hi, sorry about this! Had tried to set it up so that people don’t need to add a payment method to trial the app, but removed it due to the added code complexity, and hadn’t corrected the network check… thanks for letting me know, should be fixed in this update!

Phenomenal App

From the app design and user experience to the unique learning approach, NoSheet is a phenomenal app! I look forward to seeing how this app progresses and highly recommend it.
