So helpful!

The app has clear instructions, is easy to use, and is mostly free. It’s helped me learn so much!

Response from developer

Thank you so much! We’re really happy to hear Notaforte has helped you learn and make progress. Keep it up!

Exactly What I Wanted

This is exactly what I wanted when I was looking for an app to help read music. The progression is perfect for a beginner and helps build upon itself. Pretty deep in the lessons and havent seen a single ad. Huge help for me.

Response from developer

Thanks for the wonderful feedback! We’re glad you’re enjoying the step-by-step progression, and yes Notaforte is completely ad-free and will stay that way ;)

Great Design - Execution Needs Further Development.

I started my sight reading journey with Notaforte and was a great starter, but I quickly bumped up against the limitations of the program. Once I learned one octave I stopped progressing because the piano keyboard they provide is only 12 keys and it stunted my learning by playing, for example, all the “C” in several octaves on one key, not letting me develop keyboard awareness for WHICH “C” I was playing. Also, there is no option to plug in a Midi USB keyboard to get around this limitation. There is a pitch recognition feature, but it’s not program wide, so even sitting at a piano for all lessons won’t help. Since I use this on my iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard, the screen won’t rotate, so it use Notaforte, I have to hold my iPad on its side but must rotate the whole thing to switch between using the app and typing. It’s cumbersome. I’ve since switched to “Notevision” on my iPad Pro which has all of those features (most importantly a wider piano keyboard) and my learning where each note lives on the piano resumed. I would return to Notaforte once they include these features, as I love the interface and prefer it to the rest of the sight reading apps.

Response from developer

Very good at a very small subset of sight reading music

This is an expensive app and it teaches the basic recognition of notes very well. What it doesn’t have is tempo, timing, key, sharp & flat recognition . Just didn’t expect it to be so limited for the money paid so really disappointed.

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback, and for your kind words about the note recognition part. Just to clarify one point: Notaforte does include sharp and flat recognition. You can find dedicated chapters in the Learning Path (see for instance 2.21 & 2.22 for the Treble Clef), and also practice them in the Flash Note mode via "Note Selection → Type → All notes with ♯ and ♭”. You’re absolutely right that the app focuses on a specific part of music reading. This is intentional: for many beginners (and even experienced players who learned by ear), recognizing notes quickly on the staff is the main challenge, so we chose to go deep on that skill rather than covering everything at once. That said, we understand your expectations around rhythm and timing, and this is something we’re actively exploring for future updates later this year. Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts, it really helps us improve the app.

Amazing

We absolutely love this app. Both my husband and I were impressed at the teaching method. Our 6 year old is showing big improvements in learning how to read sheet music as she learns guitar along side.

Response from developer

Thank you so much! We love hearing that Notaforte is appreciated by the whole family, that’s really wonderful to hear. It’s especially great to know your daughter is already making such good progress. Wishing you all lots of fun and success on your musical journey!

Response from developer

Can’t Tell

The “free” version is too locked to be able to evaluate it. I suggest you offer a free trial period so that users can take it for a proper test drive.

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback. Instead of a traditional free trial that requires starting a subscription first, Notaforte lets you try part of the app immediately: no account, no subscription, no payment details required. You can access one training mode and the first 10 chapters right away to experience the method. You can also browse the entire learning path to see all chapters before deciding to upgrade. We chose this approach so users can explore the app freely without needing to start and remember to cancel a trial. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

Great wee app

Amazing, very simple explanations that I didn’t find in any theory books

Response from developer

Thank you! We really appreciate it. Happy practicing! 🎵

Intuitive and easy to learn!

As a complete beginner, this app is brilliant to teach you the basics, each step is explained clearly and the design is great. Love it!

Response from developer

Wonderful

This app worth every penny, simple and straightforward.

Response from developer

Many thanks for your kind words! Great to hear Notaforte feels clear and worth it, that means a lot to us. Happy practicing!

Love it

Tried to learn musical notation at least twice in the last decade with no success. This time it clicked almost immediately during the first few sessions! Great app, very fast progress

Response from developer

Thank you so much! We’re really happy it worked for you this time and that you’re seeing progress so quickly. Wishing you all the best on your musical journey!

Response from developer

Don’t bother

You get NOTHING unless you pay.

DELETED.

Response from developer

Thanks for your comment. Actually, Notaforte includes free access to one mode and the first 10 chapters - no subscription required. Premium unlocks the rest of the content for those who want to go further. We hope you’ll give it another try!

Great app for learning to read music notes

As a piano teacher I’m always seeking new tools to make sight reading easier for my students. So finding this app was a nice surprise! From what I know it’s the only one that focuses on both practice and understanding, building real confidence as you progress. It’s based on the landmark notes method used in Europe and also recently popular in some online courses, which I find much more effective and intuitive than the old and frustrating Ever Good Boy Does Fine approach. Here this landmark system is made even better with cool visual tips, emphasis on intervals, and fun exercises. My students and I are fans!
