About
Shoot a second whenever something catches your eye. It piles up by tag, and when there's enough, it becomes a video.
■ SHOOT FIRST
Tap the shutter for 1, 2, 4 or 8 seconds, or hold it to keep shooting. Swipe the tags under the shutter and each cut lands in commute, café, workout or whatever you set up. Turn the phone for landscape; selfies get a screen light.
■ A CAPTION FOR EVERY CUT
Tap the cut you just shot to add a caption. Five styles including handwriting, serif and a caption bar. Drag it anywhere or snap it to a fixed spot. The areas Reels and Shorts cover are shown in advance.
■ WHEN THEY PILE UP, MAKE ONE
Pick tags, a period, how many cuts and how to pick (spread evenly, one per day, most recent), and we choose the cuts. Remove, reorder or add others as you like.
■ ON THE BEAT
Pick a song and the app measures its beat from the preview, then ends every cut on a beat. Cuts are never stretched beyond what you shot. The song isn't added to the video; add the same song in Reels or Shorts and it lines up.
■ LANDSCAPE AND PORTRAIT TOGETHER
Landscape cuts in a portrait video, or portrait cuts in a landscape video, get margins: paper, white, black, lilac or blur, with the tag and time in the margin.
■ POST
We write a caption and copy it for you, then send the video through the share sheet. Save to Photos in one tap too.
■ WITHOUT OPENING THE APP
Shoot with a tag straight from a Home Screen widget, or grab a cut from the Lock Screen, Control Center or Action button without unlocking. There's a This Week widget too.
■ YOUR PHOTOS BECOME CUTS
We take the steadiest 2 seconds from Live Photos and videos and add them to a tag, keeping the date and place.
No account, no server. Your cuts and videos stay on this phone.
Song previews from Apple Music are used only to measure the beat.

What's New in Off the Reel
2.0.2
November 3, 2026
Lighter by default. - Videos now move one second per cut. 24 cuts, 24 seconds. - Landscape cuts sit on a blurred copy of the same scene. - The time stamp is a single white number in the center, no pill. Change it or turn it off under Layout. - Tag names no longer appear in the margins. - Share captions carry only your own tags. For videos cut to a song, copy the song name and add it in Reels. - The make screen folds its options into one Layout row. - Lens buttons on the camera are now round, so they don't look like the length buttons.
