This app used to be incredible. It has some of the best map features out there. Now they are adding intrusive pop up advertisements EVEN IF YOU ARE A SUBSCRIBER. I pay for this app and I’m getting obtrusive, annoying ads. Just tasteless.

Map/Plan Your Rides
Been using for a few years now, since 2021. All the little improvements and trail report features are pretty helpful. OnXOffroad still works on my iPhone SE 2nd gen, iOS 17.5.1 as of 7/29/26. (Don’t tell Tim I haven’t update my iOS plz)
A minor inconvenience is on a rare occasion while recording a track, the track will not record a section and instead trace a straight line between where the interruption began and ended. Again, minor as it’s only occurred twice in the 114 tracks I’ve recorded. Idk if this is a bug or just bad luck when locking the phone to save battery.
Another improvement that would be appreciated would be the ability to select multiple photos to attach to a waypoint instead of adding a single photo at a time. This has more to do with adding photos days after a ride when, for each photo, I have to scroll down through my photo roll and select the next one I want in sequence (while trying to remember the ones I’ve already selected 🙃)

App again not working in Landscape
Update 7/28/26 App broken again won’t work in landscape mode. WTF. Stop breaking the app, do you not test it before deploying updates? Trash.

Used it for the first time this weekend at the Ocala National Forest. Would be very lost without it. A definite MUST for going off road.

This app makes my phone overheat. iPhone 13. Phone shuts down. No other app causes this. Even when using CarPlay and phone screen is off it’s still overheating. The turn by turn Nav is too delayed to be useful. Other than that it’s a good product.
It’s OK
The app is pretty ok at best, my sons and i’s app did not route the same. It would say 1.5 miles for me then my son would say turn around we missed the turn. So that was frustrating when in the back country.

Needed help upgrading to elite and changing payment method. Contacted OnX via telephone and they were very helpful and quick with solving my problem. Oh, and the app is awesome too.

Essential
This app is essential for dispersed camping information in additional to trail information. Their customer service is also exceptional. Both times I’ve reached out about problems I caused myself, they gave quick and efficient one-stop resolutions. I have never reviewed an app before, but I’ve also never considered an app this good, and important.

Constantly Disappointed
Not only have I been guided to Off Roading trails that were marked and labeled as open on the app only to find they were seasonally closed (meaning every year it’s the same) but also biking trails that were not even rideable. That’s hours of time lost after planning trips around the info on OnX . On top of that I recently ran into the OnX rig twice once on Indy pass and then in Leadville just being rude and super immature to locals and others. Completely appalled by what this company is bringing despite what they advertise. Clearly employing immature 20 somethings that cannot deliver on the failing reputation. Most of my true outdoors men and friends use other apps, I understand why now.

Indispensable
I use this on every overland trip. Accurate, relevant to my style of driving, and the users keep it up to date.
Map routing terrible
Half the time the app refuses to begin a route with a “something went wrong message”. Then if by some miracle it does work, the app suddenly starts into a rerouting loop. I cannot recommend this app for this reason.

On-X both Off road and the hunting app are both very accurate they are greatly needed in today’s world.
