What's New in Open Vital
1.0.6
September 13, 2026
- Apple Watch App — Open Vital now runs on your wrist. See today's Recovery, Strain and Sleep scores with actionable guidance, and add Recovery, Strain, Sleep or a combined summary as a watch face complication. The watch refreshes on its own and tells you when its data is stale, without opening the iPhone app. - Guided Setup for New Accounts — A short first-run questionnaire asks which wearable you use and what you want to get out of the app, then connects it on the spot: Garmin owners sign in to Garmin Connect, everyone else connects Apple Health (or Health Connect on Android). If your watch is not an Apple Watch, the app tells you to switch on syncing to Apple Health so your data shows up. You can go back to change an answer, and the setup only asks for profile details it does not already have. - Sign in with Google — Create an account or sign in with your Google account on both iOS and Android. - Edit Your Sleep — Fix a night's bed and wake time by hand, and see a breakdown of what is pulling your sleep consistency score down. - Nap Detection, Now Opt-In — Automatic nap detection is off by default and can be switched on in settings. Detected naps appear in your activity feed in the order they happened, next to your main sleep window. - Smarter AI Coach — The coach now answers your questions instead of reading today's numbers back to you, and treats a day that has not synced yet as partial data rather than missing data. - Stand and Sitting Trends — New trend charts for daily stand time and estimated sitting time. - No More Missing Numbers — When your primary source is missing a value for today, such as resting heart rate, HRV, SpO₂ or respiration, the app now shows the Apple Health or Health Connect reading instead of a dash. - Accurate Sleep Totals — Overlapping sleep segments from Apple Health are merged instead of added, so overnight sleep is no longer double-counted, and Garmin's weekly HRV average is no longer shown as today's HRV. - Sleep Consistency Fixes — The trend chart now plots your real rolling consistency score so it matches the dashboard, and the score no longer clips to 0%. - Streaks That Wait for You — Your sleep streak no longer breaks at midnight before you have had a chance to sleep. Today shows as pending until the night is in. - Healthspan Bar and Impact Now Agree — Long sleep no longer counts against your pace of aging while the bar shows green. Every metric's bar and impact now move in the same direction. - Privacy — The app records which wearable or health app your data came from on your account profile, so you can see it under privacy settings. Full details are in the updated privacy policy. - Android — Fixed a crash on the Garmin sign-in screen and updated the build toolchain.
