What's New in OpenNutriTracker

v2.0.2

August 5, 2026

Version 2.0 is the biggest update OpenNutriTracker has had — a redesign that touches every screen, plus a much larger food database and a proper Trends tab. A new look • Calmer, flatter design across the whole app, with meals and activities as full-width rows that are easier to read and tap • Settings moved into the You tab and grouped into labelled categories, so the scattered gear icons are gone • Swipe between days in the diary, and jump straight back to today • Friendlier empty states, and a new animated splash screen Trends • Current and longest logging streak • Calories charted against your goal line, with week-over-week change and tappable points • Daily macro averages, a water card, and weight against your target with an estimate of how long it will take to get there • Switch the window between 7, 30 and 90 days or your entire history • Log your weight straight from Trends, and pick a date to backfill older entries Food database • Search now spans Open Food Facts, USDA FoodData Central and the German Bundeslebensmittelschlüssel, with the sources selectable in Settings • One combined result list ranked by relevance instead of separate tabs per source • Recently added foods appear first, so repeat meals are a two-tap job • Serving labels use real household units, and machine-translated names are marked as such Faster logging • Quick add for activities as well as meals — a name, the calories, done • Preset quantity chips in the meal detail sheet • The barcode scanner keeps the camera upright, and the search bar no longer overflows in landscape Profiles and units • Multiple profiles on one device • Food, height and body weight now have their own units, including stones and feet + inches Onboarding • The first-run flow has been rebuilt and now explains what each answer is used for • Try the app with sample data before entering anything about yourself • New screens explain exactly how your calorie goal, macro split and BMI are calculated Accessibility • Contrast raised to WCAG AA, screen-reader labels on the calorie ring and charts • Layouts hold together at large text sizes instead of clipping or overflowing Fixes • Entries land on the right day when a custom day-start time is set • Weight changes made in your profile are recorded in your weight history • Exports no longer fail silently with an empty file • Macro split values save exactly as you type them • A storage error now shows a recovery screen instead of quietly resetting the app • Recipe tags survive duplication, and various layout crashes are gone As always: free, open source, no ads, no subscriptions, and your data stays on your device. Huge thanks to @jordan-lee-code, @chrisheib, @munzzyy, @Xmemo, and Niko for the code, fixes, and review that went into this release.

Five stars but..

It tracks you. Please make this the only calorie counting app available on IOS that doesnt track you. Being the only app would make you the defacto top choice for anyone paying attention to the surveillance and police state. Help remove the fascists. Please!! 🙏 (being the peoples champ is alot better than being anything else)

straightforward and all in one

i like how it has weight tracking and calorie tracking, and it is easy to add all the details of your meals yourself. It is very helpful and awesome!!!!

Struggling But Grateful

I’m excited to work with a non-commercial nutrient tracking app. But, on initial use, I’m really struggling to log my meals.

When I click to log a meal, I don’t see any of my custom foods or recipes without searching or going to “recents”. Why wouldn’t my foods always be there, or maybe a tab for my foods? It’s not there.

In order to use the app efficiently, I need to create custom meals. But, the “simple” method seems to have a default serving size of 100g which cannot be changed. The “advanced” method allows me to set a meal size and/or serving size as a default “total amount”. And, then there’s a “base quantity” which allows me to set the “serving size” which is again by default 100g.

It’s just really confusing, not to mention the results for foods seem to be a combination of all users custom foods and scanned foods. I’d like the option to not show other’s custom foods or recipes, and instead have a basic database of staples like “eggs”, “bread”, “whole milk”, etc. It’s really cluttered when searching.

For scanning every food with a barcode, it’s petty great. But still, for recalling common foods, it requires an inefficient process of first tapping recent, then scrolling. I’m hoping it’ll get a “my foods” tab which opens by default when adding a meal, and the most recent foods scanned or added will be there.

Free, privacy-focused, but slightly complicated

I love this app because it’s free, doesn’t have ads, and all your data is stored only on your phone. I believe they take some anonymized metrics but it’s not much. Setting it up is slightly unintuitive / complicated but once you get it figured out it’s smooth sailing. It’s not as easy as Lose It or other calorie trackers, doesn’t have HealthKit / Apple fitness integration, but it’s pretty solid if you just want to track your intake and stay on top of deficit.

The food database is slightly frustrating since probably a third of what I eat either isn’t in there or there’s an error when I scan the barcode, and I end up having to create a custom food or meal. I do feel like the math in the app is not always 100%, but what fitness app’s math is going to be true to what’s actually going on in you? I think it relies a lot on your BMI, and even as a highly active adult it still put my daily suggested kcal intake way too high for what I would consider a deficit- so I decreased it by about 500 kcal.

Other than its quirks this app works well and accomplishes the task of nutrition tracking for me and I respect the privacy on it. I would recommend if you have the time to set it up (probably takes 20 min TOPS to get everything in and get used to it) and log possibly missing foods.
