Five stars but..
It tracks you. Please make this the only calorie counting app available on IOS that doesnt track you. Being the only app would make you the defacto top choice for anyone paying attention to the surveillance and police state. Help remove the fascists. Please!! š (being the peoples champ is alot better than being anything else)

straightforward and all in one
i like how it has weight tracking and calorie tracking, and it is easy to add all the details of your meals yourself. It is very helpful and awesome!!!!
Struggling But Grateful
Iām excited to work with a non-commercial nutrient tracking app. But, on initial use, Iām really struggling to log my meals.
When I click to log a meal, I donāt see any of my custom foods or recipes without searching or going to ārecentsā. Why wouldnāt my foods always be there, or maybe a tab for my foods? Itās not there.
In order to use the app efficiently, I need to create custom meals. But, the āsimpleā method seems to have a default serving size of 100g which cannot be changed. The āadvancedā method allows me to set a meal size and/or serving size as a default ātotal amountā. And, then thereās a ābase quantityā which allows me to set the āserving sizeā which is again by default 100g.
Itās just really confusing, not to mention the results for foods seem to be a combination of all users custom foods and scanned foods. Iād like the option to not show otherās custom foods or recipes, and instead have a basic database of staples like āeggsā, ābreadā, āwhole milkā, etc. Itās really cluttered when searching.
For scanning every food with a barcode, itās petty great. But still, for recalling common foods, it requires an inefficient process of first tapping recent, then scrolling. Iām hoping itāll get a āmy foodsā tab which opens by default when adding a meal, and the most recent foods scanned or added will be there.

Free, privacy-focused, but slightly complicated
I love this app because itās free, doesnāt have ads, and all your data is stored only on your phone. I believe they take some anonymized metrics but itās not much. Setting it up is slightly unintuitive / complicated but once you get it figured out itās smooth sailing. Itās not as easy as Lose It or other calorie trackers, doesnāt have HealthKit / Apple fitness integration, but itās pretty solid if you just want to track your intake and stay on top of deficit.
The food database is slightly frustrating since probably a third of what I eat either isnāt in there or thereās an error when I scan the barcode, and I end up having to create a custom food or meal. I do feel like the math in the app is not always 100%, but what fitness appās math is going to be true to whatās actually going on in you? I think it relies a lot on your BMI, and even as a highly active adult it still put my daily suggested kcal intake way too high for what I would consider a deficit- so I decreased it by about 500 kcal.
Other than its quirks this app works well and accomplishes the task of nutrition tracking for me and I respect the privacy on it. I would recommend if you have the time to set it up (probably takes 20 min TOPS to get everything in and get used to it) and log possibly missing foods.

Nutrition Meets Privacy
The most recent version puts this open source nutrition tracker among the best resources out there - all while respecting your privacy through free and open source software. If you care about your fitness and care about having control of your data, look no further!
I like it but
It needs updates.
Some that come to mind:
Daily water tracker
More freedom with implementing generalized meals with custom macros (relying on some open database isnt enough)
More info about Green/Red Success/fail days on the calendar (such as why its red)
Custom pictures for recipes
Fix onboarding with height
Stop collecting data / privacy

Honestly, the app is absolutely perfect, it does what it needs to, without useless functions, and most importantly : without any ads.

HealthKit integration
Daaamn! This app is straight fire, I really love the UI... But itās a real bummer that thereās no Apple Health sync. It would be super cool to fetch data and sync it back. Hope to see this feature āš»
Canāt believe itās free
Exactly, what Iām looking for
Clean UI
Nice DB
NO ADs
Canāt thank you enough

unintuitive but free
i really hate to leave a negative review for something that is free and open source, but i think it could use some improvements, especially regarding the ui. itās a bit frustrating that 1. when you enter your height at the beginning, the imperial measurement doesnāt allow for inches, only feet, so you have to exit the app and calculate the decimal percent of inches. thereās also no converter so if youād rather enter in cm you have to go look it up.
2. the macro percent goals cannot be entered manually, only with a sliding scale that retroactively adjusts the other macros each time you move one.
3. you canāt change just one measurement to a different system (imperial vs metric), so if you try to enter height in cm and then enter weight in lbs it doesnāt work.
4. you cannot manually input a calorie target. it has another sliding scale which shows + or - the amount of calories, but which does not show the total while youāre doing it.
i will say, that the visuals are great. it looks nice and clean, it just unfortunately feels like a challenge to use.
