What's New in OptOut News

1.0.21

August 20, 2024

We've made an update that streamlines our messaging to app users.

User reviews

Not actually unbiased

Strongly biased content, down to the first link available when I opened the app. Didn’t even try to hide it.

Too slow

I usually just see a “loading” screen. It eventually goes away, but takes way too long.

Kind of pokey

I like being exposed to some publications I haven’t seen before, but the app is kind of slow in comparison to the RSS feeds I follow with Inoreader.

Collects your data

Disappointed to see from reading their privacy policy that they collect far more personal data than their App Privacy Details suggest. Hard pass.

Pixel tags?

I was about to sign up as interested in the journalistic concept as in checking out the news aggregator functionality. I read a few opening paragraphs of the T&C before I scrolled quickly to the privacy policy. And this is what I saw:
Pixel tags and other similar technologies.
Pixel tags. Pixel tags (also known as web beacons and clear GIFs) may be used to, among other things, track the actions of users of the Services (including email recipients), measure the success of our marketing campaigns, and compile statistics about usage of the Services and response rates.
I’m fine with the app owners tracking detailed app activity. But Yikes! using pixel tags to track activity outside the app? Yeah… no. Delete.
