The best mapping app
This is excellent for hiking and routing too. All the OSM information is there. Downloads of areas are a suitable size and fast.
An easily usable OSM map
I've used Osmand for a while now, but as others have said, you really do have to crank its gears to get it to work properly, and it is easily confusing for most. If you just need a simple map that works perfectly, is entirely free (entirely), and also automatically downloads offline maps for you, then I highly recommend Organic Maps. The map is very readable and easy to use. To use Organic Maps, simply use the search bar to search up a location, press SAVE to save it to your collection, or press ROUTE TO to navigate towards it; also tap on any location shown on screen to do the same.

Excellent map Option to replace google maps
Misguided
This could have the potential to be a great navigation app. It misses one crucial info to become one - it needs live traffic info.
I was trying to navigate today from A to B . The app gave me a quick route according to a distance and freeways and such but it didn’t take into account the fact that that specific route had massive delays with huge traffic jam on the freeway.
Other app took that into account and diverted me from that. Had I followed this app I would have been stuck traffic for a very long time.
If this will be implemented then this app will rock.

Near perfect map for travelling
If only everyone used this to keep their corner of the world up to date, other maps wouldn’t even come close to this one.
I wish the world all just sing of the same map sheet.
One issue though is contours. They are most needed zoomed out. And they don’t appear until zoomed in.
There needs to be a contour layer with every zoom layer.

Amazing offline map
Organic maps is amazing as it is open-source and uses open-source openstreetmap data. The Wikipedia summaries are amazing, something that big apps like google maps are missing, and the extra info that you can see if you click on the summary is amazing, I haven’t seen it on any other map.
The only thing that I found lacking is the street view and example pictures of big monuments. But, I understand how large the app would be and how much more expensive it would be to implement. A setting to ‘add example pictures to big monuments’ would be amazing.
Routing is great for walking but somewhat lacking for public transport, I haven’t tried the driving yet. While I would trust the walking routes, I have found myself turning to other apps for public transport routing.
Overall a great app, excels in its selling point of being offline and still has great potential.

CarPlay support and addresses could use work
At the time of writing, this app doesn’t support CarPlay as the default map application, meaning it can’t be a part of the CarPlay Home Screen. It works as a full screen app, but it would be really awesome if this feature were implemented. Additionally, plugging in an address gives you the street block at best, which is really painful if trying to use this as your primary navigation source. Fixing those would make it a full 5 star in my book.
Overall, decent Libre, privacy-respecting alternative to Apple or Google or whatever user hating app people use to get directions. Offline maps are awesome for navigating anywhere and it even does train directions overseas pretty well.

Sehr gute offline Navigation – perfekt fürs Android Autoradio
Ich habe Organic Maps auf meinem Android-Autoradio getestet und bin bisher wirklich begeistert.
Besonders gut gefällt mir, dass man komplette Länder kostenlos herunterladen und anschließend vollständig offline nutzen kann, ohne dass der Download auf einzelne Städte oder kleine Regionen beschränkt ist. Ich habe direkt Deutschland und einige Nachbarländer heruntergeladen und die Navigation anschließend ohne Internetverbindung getestet – und genau das tut sie: Sie bringt einen zuverlässig ans Ziel.
Auch die vielen Kategorien und POIs finde ich sehr praktisch. Die App wirkt insgesamt angenehm schlank und ressourcenschonend, was gerade auf einem Android-Autoradio ein großer Vorteil ist. Trotz der umfangreichen Offline-Karten läuft sie bei mir problemlos.
Die Kartendarstellung könnte meiner Meinung nach etwas moderner und übersichtlicher sein, aber dafür ist Organic Maps angenehm unkompliziert und konzentriert sich auf das Wesentliche.
Ein kleiner Kritikpunkt ist die Suchfunktion. Manchmal muss man den Namen eines Ortes ziemlich genau so eingeben, wie er in den OpenStreetMap-Daten hinterlegt ist. Zum Beispiel wird „Saarbrücker Zoo“ nicht unbedingt gefunden, wenn man stattdessen „Zoo Saarbrücken“ eingibt. Hier wäre eine etwas intelligentere Suche mit Synonymen und unterschiedlichen Schreibweisen wünschenswert.
Trotzdem ist mein Gesamteindruck sehr positiv. Für alle, die eine kostenlose, schlanke und zuverlässige Offline-Navigation suchen, kann ich Organic Maps definitiv empfehlen. Gerade auf einem Android-Autoradio ist die App für mich eine der besten Lösungen.

J’aurais cependant quelques points d’amélioration à vous faire parvenir. En effet, quand vous voulez mettre a jour une carte, cela vous indique qu’il n’y a plus de place dans le téléphone, alors que la nouvelle carte devrait prendre la place de l’ancienne. Une possibilité de changer le niveau de gris dans le thème de l’application serait sympa (afin que le fond de carte ne soit pas totalement noir).

Private but public transit needs work
I love how that it’s private and that it will download the map offline. Perfect. But I find public transit needs work. Specifically two things.
1. When in dark mode, you can’t read the bus number. The purple outline makes the blue typography impossible to read.
2. No matter what you do, when taking public transit, the start button stays greyed out, there are no details about your travel, it doesn’t say when the bus or train is scheduled to come, it doesn’t show other stops, and it doesn’t show more than just one route to choose from.
As someone who primarily uses public transit, I’m really bummed by this. I want to drop Google Maps immediately but can’t until this is fixed on organic maps.

The best Offline Map & free too 😊
One of the best off-line map I ever used and it is free, kudos to the team 👏👍😊
Good at bringing OSM to iOS
This is a useful app in bringing OpenStreetMap to iPhones. I use the app in limited areas in the UK and Spain, for which the ability to download these areas so work offline is most useful. Much better than using the OSM web site.
The app has the annoying tendency to treat a “drag map” as “rapidly zoom out” but I can live with that

Great but can be better
I like the idea of having offline maps, I believe it is very useful especially when you’re on a road trip or traveling. However, I have some nitpicks with this app. I would like a more modern and sleek user interface, comparing the UI between Google maps and Apple Maps is a night and day difference. I’m not even asking for top of the line features but make it more user-friendly.
