About
A note from the creator -
As someone who has struggled to kick bad habits, I've been desperately seeking a tool to help me stop the cycle of always going back to those habits. I created this app to help myself, and I figured why not put it out there for others, just in case. When you have an urge to do something negative like drink, gamble, or use, for example, you need one small, doable task in the moment to refresh your mind.
Outlast the Urge (inside the app, you'll see its name: Urge Surf) provides these tasks. Open the app, press "I want to be bad," and get one random suggestion. It includes grounding techniques, breathing exercises, things to move your body, people to call, cold water, distraction, journaling prompts, and more. The pool is big enough that you'll rarely see the same one twice.
What's In The App:
• One button. No setup and no account needed, giving you the fastest possible path from "I'm about to slip" to "here's something else to do instead."
• Nearly 10,000 unique suggestions across 20 categories, so it never feels like the same three tips on repeat.
• A running count of urges you've outlasted, broken down by today, this week, this month, this year, and all time, giving you visible progress.
• Journal about the urge, or how a suggestion made you feel, and look back on every entry later.
• Star the suggestions that actually work for you, and revisit your favorites any time.
• Everything stays on your device. No account, no ads, no analytics, no data collection of any kind.
It's built on a simple idea from relapse-prevention psychology: an urge is a wave. It rises, it crests, and it passes. This app exists to help you get through the toughest minutes.
This app is a self-help tool, not a substitute for professional treatment, therapy, or emergency care. If you're in crisis, please contact a crisis line or emergency services in your area.
