FAQ
Does PaceBuddy have ads?
No, PaceBuddy is ad-free. The app explicitly states 'No ads — ever' and emphasizes its private design.
How does PaceBuddy compare to other running apps?
PaceBuddy focuses on racing against your own past performances on specific routes, offering real-time feedback and advanced terrain tracking. Unlike many apps, it requires no account, sign-up, or network connection, prioritizing user privacy.
What devices does PaceBuddy support?
PaceBuddy is supported on Apple Watch and iPhone. It can function as a standalone workout app on the Apple Watch, allowing you to leave your iPhone at home.
How accurate is PaceBuddy's distance and elevation tracking?
PaceBuddy uses GPS Doppler speed with step-based stride calibration for distance, which holds up under tree cover and on switchbacks. It utilizes the barometer for elevation, providing more accurate readings on hills than GPS altitude.
What is the age rating for PaceBuddy?
PaceBuddy has an age rating of 4+. This indicates it is suitable for a wide range of users, including children.
How does PaceBuddy handle privacy?
PaceBuddy is designed for privacy, with no ads, no subscriptions, no account creation, and no third-party SDKs. Your workout data stays on your device unless you choose to sync it with Apple Health.
When can I start racing myself with PaceBuddy?
Pace coaching compares you to your own history on a given route, so it appears from your second workout on that route onward. Your first run on a route has nothing to race yet.
Is PaceBuddy free to use?
PaceBuddy offers a 14-day free trial with all features unlocked. After the trial, a single one-time purchase is required to keep the app permanently.
