Why Pay For “Upgrade?”

I love Pages, the software for writing and creating posters, proposals, etc.
Now, instead of some more tools as a part of the program, I’m solicited to buy. Shame on Apple for sinking to the level of the competition!

Stupid UI

Whenever I open a page on my iPad it’s compressed vertically into the centre like on a phone. And it’s difficult to edit it because when I tap on it, it doesn’t even let me edit it especially in the case when I have bullet pointed notes and then normal paragraph following it. I have to tap on a specific area like the first bullet point to even edit it.

Also, App Store reviewing is so bugged. I accidentally tap somewhere off this pop up and then my entire review is deleted and not even saved. Fix this.

My opinion on Pages

My most favorite app to use other than Google docs & Word doc for the computers.

Updates are terrible

Updates make it too difficult to use - use to be the easiest most straightforward thing to create counts and add photos to and now it’s the most frustrating app - why do they need to ruin things?

2026

The fact that it is 2026 and this application still lacks a proper dark mode is honestly baffling.

Good job

I do everything on pages so I can print anytime want.

3 stars!

Great app

A pretty good word processor

A pretty good word processor —- and it also good at page layout. I am glad that Apple made the decision for me to be able to set set which of those two kinds of document any kind of document is, so it can function most strongly in that dual role.

I just like it 😀

Overview and Strengths
Pages prioritizes clean design, visual polish, and seamless Apple ecosystem integration over the exhaustive feature set of Microsoft Word. It is excellent for creating attractive letters, reports, newsletters, resumes, flyers, and interactive EPUB books.
Key strengths include:
• Elegant, uncluttered interface — Minimal toolbar + context-sensitive sidebar. Far less overwhelming than Word’s ribbon. Strong typography tools, gradients, image fills, and easy media insertion (photos, videos from YouTube/Vimeo, audio recording, charts, 700+ shapes).
• Templates — 90+ high-quality, professionally designed templates that look polished out of the box and are highly customizable.
• Apple ecosystem integration — Excellent iCloud sync and Handoff across devices. Continuity Camera for scanning documents with an iPhone. Scribble + Apple Pencil support on iPad for handwriting-to-text. Automatic saving.
• Collaboration — Real-time multi-user editing with comments, change tracking, and threaded discussions (works across Apple devices and via the web version).
• Export options — PDF, Microsoft Word (.docx), EPUB, and more. Good for creating interactive books publishable to Apple Books.
• Free for core use — No subscription required for standard document creation and editing on Apple hardware.
• Privacy-friendly — Strong offline capability and password protection for documents.
Recent updates (2026) added automatic hyphenation, easier image replacement from the Content Hub, show/hide formatting symbols, and (for Creator Studio subscribers) AI image generation/editing, Super Resolution upscaling, direct Pixelmator Pro integration on iPad, premium templates/content, and more.
PCMag rates the iWork suite 4.0 (“Excellent”), praising its graphical capabilities and free nature while noting proprietary format limitations. App Store ratings hover around 4.6.

NAVIGATION HAS BECOME UNCLEAR

FORMATTING PLACEMENT, SHOULD BE MORE FLEXIBLE AND GIVE ABILITY TO CUSTOMISE ROTATING ITEMS.

Nice word document maker and more

Pages is the Apple “word” app. It works well enough. My personal bug-bear with it is its inability to go into night mode. When you want/need to do some wordie work at 2am you’re faced with a blinding white background. Why not a quick flip to black pages and white text that can be flipped back to normal at the end of the task? So much easier on the eyes…
As I said, it’s a personal bug…

Use

It is not user friendly and you can’t change the font size for the body of your writing to something reasonable.

Feels like a freemium app now

Unfortunately, the main “upgrade” is the paid “AI” features, making the core experience feel like a freemium app
