Terrible

This app definitely does not work. Don’t recommend spending any of your money on this. Do not get it.

Useless unless you pay subscription

It will not let you past the subscription screen to see your paint match

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback. Paint Match is free to download and preview, and seeing your exact paint match (the brand and color name from our 120-brand catalog) is a paid Pro feature. That's what keeps the catalog current and the app in development. The lowest-cost option is a 1-week subscription, which you can cancel immediately after purchasing and still use for the full week. If you'd rather not subscribe at all, a one-time Lifetime purchase unlocks every Pro feature forever with no recurring charge. The price is always shown before you buy, and you can reach us anytime at v5cqpsj4e3u4@opayq.com.

Wildly incorrect

Colour recommendations were a range of mid to dark greys when the wall is a shade of white

Colour names it recommended were for dulux colours unavailable in Australia

Response from developer

Fair points, thank you. You're right that the Dulux range in the app is the UK one, Dulux Australia is a different company with different colour names. This is fixed in the next update, and Dulux Australia's full range will be in the app. The other local brands are there in the meantime: Taubmans, Haymes, Wattyl, British Paints, Berger, Porter's and Solver, selectable in the brand picker. The greys are a camera issue: phones meter a big white wall down toward mid-grey, so the photo itself records grey. The Match Color tab fixes it, hold a sheet of white paper next to the wall and the app corrects the exposure and colour cast before matching. Results on whites are much better that way. Happy to match your photo for you if you contact us from the Saved tab.

Doesn’t work

This app has not gotten a single color correct. Waste of money.

Response from developer

We’re sorry the matches weren’t accurate for you. Camera-based color matching can be affected by lighting, shadows, glare, camera settings, and surface texture, so results are best when the color is photographed in bright, even, natural light without reflections. We’re continually improving the matching system and would appreciate the opportunity to review your results. Please contact us through the app’s support option with the photos and colors you tested so Customer Support can help.

Doesn’t work - don’t waste your money

Doesn’t work to match paint colors. I tested it on multiple walls in my home with known paint colors and it didn’t match any of them correctly. They also won’t refund you if you have this issue.

Response from developer

We’re sorry the matches did not meet your expectations. Camera-based color matching is affected by lighting, shadows, reflections, camera processing, and the condition of the painted surface. For the best results, please photograph a clean, evenly lit area in neutral daylight, without direct sunlight or artificial lighting, and use the results as a guide to narrow down likely colors before confirming with physical paint samples. We’re always available through the in-app feedback option to troubleshoot problems and assist with refund requests. Developers cannot directly issue App Store refunds; requests can be submitted to Apple at https://reportaproblem.apple.com, and Apple makes the final refund determination.

Trial

What free trial

Response from developer

There is currently no free trial. The lowest-cost option is one week of full access for $4.99. You can cancel immediately after subscribing to prevent renewal and still use the app for the remainder of the paid week.

So far off

Even with the top 3 recommendations none were even close. Tried different walls and lighting and just not worth the cost and the pain.

Response from developer

I’m sorry the matches were so far off—that’s not the experience the app should provide. I’ve made major improvements to both color detection and paint matching in the latest version. Please update the app and send feedback through the in-app support option with an example photo so I can investigate the specific mismatch. If the improved results work better for you, I’d greatly appreciate you reconsidering your review.

Wrong

It’s 0 for 10 so far. It is not accurate at all for identifying color. Luckily I only paid for a week of usage . Great idea though.

Response from developer

Thank you for trying Paint Color Match, and I’m sorry the results weren’t accurate for your samples. Color matching depends heavily on lighting, shadows, glare, camera exposure, and the surface being photographed, so results can vary if the photo conditions are not controlled. For the best accuracy, please try matching in neutral, even lighting and use the calibrated white reference matching option in the app. That helps correct for camera and lighting differences and usually produces much better results. If you’re willing, please contact support in the app with a few example photos where the match was wrong. I’d like to understand what happened and help you get better results.

Complete waste of money

Does not work at all. Walls are white and app says they are grey. Complete waste of money

Not free

It’s not a free app, can’t do anything without subscription

Useless

I did not get offered a preview as others have said, but decided to buy for one week. It was completely useless. It couldn’t even get the paint covers that were very obvious, and I already knew the answer to including when I used the watches in the shop. They were actually wildly different. E.g. mistaking a light dusky pink for a very dark grey clay.

Rubbish

Won’t do Anything without purchase. Very misleading. Waste of time.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback. The app is designed to show what requires purchase before full access is unlocked, but I understand your experience felt misleading, and that is not the experience I want users to have. I’m reviewing the onboarding and purchase messaging to make the free vs paid access clearer upfront, so users know exactly what to expect before continuing.

Not even close

I tried to match color on a ceiling in a condo that needed touched up. App gave me colors in the medium gray range when actual color was close to bright white. I ended up paying for the app and wasting $33 at Sherwin-Williams when I guessed wrong.

Response from developer

Thank you for the detailed feedback. Ceiling touch-ups are especially sensitive because shadows, sheen, camera exposure, and warm indoor lighting can make bright whites read much darker or grayer than they are. For the best result, please retest in bright neutral daylight and include a pure white reference nearby, such as printer paper or a known white paint chip. That helps the app correct for lighting and avoid shifting the match too dark. I’m also continuing to improve the matching model for whites, ceilings, and low-saturation colors based on reports like this. If you’re willing to send the ceiling photo and the result you received, I can review it directly and help you get a closer match: v5cqpsj4e3u4@opayq.com

Subscription Required

Without a subscription you cannot see any paint match results.

Seems like a good app, but it is only “free” in the sense that it will find the match. It just won’t tell you any color values.

Response from developer

Thanks for the honest feedback. You’re right that the full paint match result is part of the paid version, and I understand how that can feel misleading when you expected the color values to be included for free. The free experience is meant to let you test the matching flow first before deciding whether you want full results. That said, the paywall and App Store messaging need to make that clearer up front, and I’m continuing to improve that. I appreciate you calling it out, because expectation-setting matters. If you decide to give it another try and feel the experience is clearer after future updates, I’d be grateful if you’d reconsider the rating.

Can’t try the app

No testing the app to see if it can even get close? Not spending money if I can’t test the functionality. Trash…

Response from developer

Thank you for the feedback. The app is free to download and explore so you can get a feel for how it works before subscribing. The actual paint match results are part of the paid subscription. That is intentional, since the core value of the app is the paint matching itself. We understand that this model will not be for everyone, but the app is not locked before you can see what it does and whether it fits your needs. If you revisit the app and feel the experience is clearer than it first seemed, we’d appreciate it if you would consider updating your review.

Junk

Wouldn’t let me do anything unless I paid. Then why let people download it then. Garbage App. Deleted.

Response from developer

Thank you for the feedback. I’m sorry the experience came across that way. The app does allow a preview so people can see how it works before deciding whether Pro features are worth paying for. It is not meant to mislead anyone, and it is not unusable without immediately committing to a long subscription. There are flexible options, including a short 1-week plan for people who only need it for a project, as well as a Lifetime purchase for anyone who prefers to pay once and never again. I completely understand that no app is for everyone, but “wouldn’t let me do anything” does not reflect how the app is actually set up. If you’re open to giving it another try, I think you may find it more useful than your first impression suggested. If you do, I’d really appreciate you revising your review to reflect the full experience.

Spam

Very inaccurate results, constant pop ups to subscribe and the free version works for about 10 minutes before it locks you out.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback. The app is designed to give fast paint color matches and previews, but results can vary depending on lighting, shadows, camera quality, and the surface being scanned. We’re continuously improving accuracy and expanding the matching system to make results more reliable. The subscription prompts are there because this is a premium app, but every user can try the core experience first before deciding whether it’s a fit. We appreciate the criticism and use it to keep improving both the matching quality and the overall experience.

Think before you click

Definitely not a help. Colors bleed through, limited selection of colors.

Response from developer

The app includes over 10,000 real paint colors from more than a dozen major brands, so selection is not limited. If you’re not seeing a specific brand or color, it may just require using the search bar or filtering by manufacturer. Regarding colors “bleeding through,” that typically happens when: • The wall has heavy shadows or texture • The lighting is uneven or very warm • The edges of the wall aren’t clearly defined in the photo For best results: • Take the photo in bright, natural light • Avoid glare and strong shadows • Stand straight on to the wall • Make sure the surface is clearly visible The app uses advanced segmentation to preserve shadows and depth so the paint looks realistic, but certain lighting conditions can affect the preview. For anyone considering the app: it’s designed to quickly identify and preview thousands of real paint colors with realistic lighting preserved.

Médiocre

Précision médiocre

A complete con

I downloaded this and was only able to try it out for a couple of minutes before it locks access and forces you to a ‘Pro’ subscription. The blurb states that it offers a free trial but this is insufficient time to get any sense of how useful this app is before being forced into paying for it. Cynical!!
