Passportrait checks your passport photo against the U.S. Department of State's published requirements — before you pay the fee and wait weeks to find out. It measures more than thirty things: head height and eye line, how square you are to the camera, background brightness, color and shadows, whether your eyes are open and your expression is neutral, sharpness, glare, and whether the file has been edited or is too old to submit. It is cropped and resized, which the rules require; the content is never retouched, which the rules prohibit. GPS is stripped from the file you submit. The capture date and camera are kept, because they are true and they are the evidence the photo is recent. YOUR PHOTO NEVER LEAVES YOUR PHONE Every measurement runs on device. Some things a phone cannot judge — the dimensions of a print, the paper it is on, or color balance under lighting we cannot see.
