About
A tenth of a millimetre in perforation gauge or a hidden watermark can be the difference between a common stamp and a rare variety worth a hundred times more. PhilLens helps you read those markers, identify the exact issue, estimate what it may be worth, and catalogue an entire album in one tidy place.
BUILT FOR STAMP COLLECTORS
Identify the issue, not just the design.
Two stamps can look identical and be worth wildly different sums. PhilLens reads the design, the country and the denomination, then helps you match the specific issue — so you know which printing you are holding, not merely which picture is on it.
Read the markers that decide rarity.
Rarity in philately hides in the details: the perforation gauge along the edges, the watermark in the paper, the exact shade of ink, an overprint or surcharge, and whether the gum is intact. PhilLens walks you through these markers one by one, so you can tell a scarce variety from an ordinary reprint with confidence.
See a reference value range.
For each match, PhilLens shows a market reference range drawn from catalogue and realized-price signals, so you have a realistic sense of worth before you buy, sell, or insure. Adjust the condition and the range responds. These are reference estimates, not appraisals, offers, or financial advice — a certified expert opinion remains the final word on any valuable stamp.
Grade condition the philatelic way.
Condition drives value more than almost anything. PhilLens introduces the collector grades from the centering scale through soundness, gum state, and the never-hinged premium, so you can grade your own stamps consistently and record the result beside each one.
Turn a shoebox into a catalogue.
Inherited an album, a stockbook, or a drawer full of loose stamps? Save every stamp you scan into a personal collection on your device. Record country, issue, condition, and reference value, sort and filter your pages, and watch the catalogue — and its total reference value — take shape as you work through the pile.
Learn the hobby, for free.
PhilLens ships with in-app guides any collector can read without subscribing: how stamps are graded on the centering scale, the rarest stamps and why they command a fortune, how to read watermarks and gauge perforations, how to spot reperforating and regumming, why you should always handle stamps with tongs, and how acid-free, PVC-free storage keeps a collection safe for generations.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Photograph a stamp, or pick one from your library — works for mint or used, on or off paper.
2. PhilLens identifies the likely issue and shows a confidence indicator. Confirm it or adjust by hand.
3. Note the perforation, watermark, shade and condition to refine the reference value range.
4. Save it to your collection and move on to the next stamp.
PRIVACY YOU CAN UNDERSTAND
Your collection, scan history, and preferences are stored on your device. There are no accounts and no third-party trackers or advertising SDKs. When online recognition is enabled, the photo you scan is sent securely to our recognition service to look up the stamp, is not retained after processing, and is never used for advertising or tracking. See the in-app Privacy Policy for full details.
