Broken
Bought this subscription recently and it was running fine-all of a sudden it won’t acknowledge the subscription (would be good if you could actually get help or assistance from apple for the products they sell). The active subscription is listed in my apple account. Still not working. Not impressed.

And so confused why it’s not included in this new “amazing” creator studio package. What’s the point. I never post bad reviews unless they really do deserve them.
Could be good
It has good features, the removal tools and workflows are nice. However it’s odd we can’t set kelvin values for the temperature, just relatively moving the slider per photo. It would be nice as that one time license alternative to LR, but it’s not quite there.
Threw customers overboard!
I bought a “lifetime” license for this November 2024. Apple bought it a few months later (same issue for Pixelmator) and has now moved it to their package and left us out in the cold- no updates unless we subscribe to package. Never again an Apple app.
great app with 1 major flaw for RAW editing
Photomator is an app with great tools and an intuitive system for organizing and editing photos. However, the 1 big flaw that makes batch editing a slow process is the “copy and paste edits” only allowing the copying of edits made to the images base layer. With the base layer of an image being the only one with access to a RAW files full data it becomes the optimal layer for adjusting an images initial exposure, these adjustments vary between photos in a batch and should be kept on a different layer then colour adjustments which would be the preferred set of adjustments to copy and paste to the rest of the photos in a batch. Not being able to copy adjustments from an adjustment layer means that their edits must be manually adjusted each time for every photo in a batch and misses the point of batch editing entirely. To fix this, please allow us to copy edits made on other adjustment layers as opposed to just the RAW base layer OR allow all adjustment and mask layers to access the RAW files full image data. Either of these 2 changes would make this app the perfect thing for editing RAW images

Broke my photo library!
I installed this hoping it might have some useful tools for faster bulk coping, like marquee crop (it doesn’t), so immediately uninstalled it. Now the existing Photos app is glitching and freezing like crazy, making it unusable. I have 125k photos in the library - this is extremely annoying
Missing basic professional functions
Just bought a life time license of this app instead of trying it out first, as I don’t like subscription model (7 day trial will force you to go the subscription route). Functions that I use a lot in other matured photo editing tools are adjustments (curves) in different colour spaces. To be specific, CMYK and LAB. Please include these in future releases as I have no choice but to continue with other apps without this support.

Apple but can’t conform to iOS?
Embarrassing. It’s an Apple-owned app that doesn’t conform to iOS’ own folder conventions. Can’t open certain folders in the Photos app. Apple should have far better QA than this.
Almost there
I like their layers support and ability to do adjustments at individual layer level. One control I dearly miss compared to Lightroom is dehaze tool and background blur tool
Needs more
Good all round editor but could do with more functionality around lens correction and also being able to brush in corrections
Lightroom for Apple
Been looking for a Lightroom replacement for a good while now, apps like Luminar neo showed promise, but lacked editing consistency, most photos turned out the same due to there overly simplified editing and colour options.
Photomator gives you all the sliders you’ll need to professionally colour grade your photos.
Why move away from Lightroom? A Monthly subscription to Lightroom will give you a year access to this platform. Kinda a no brainer.
Mind you the masking options Lightroom offers are critical, but for casual photographers, snapping adventure photos on there phone, this is perfect

It feels intuitive
As a new photo editor, I was so pleased to be able to jump in and just start editing. I found it to be very easy to get some amazing results. The price, yearly, is great at $30.
RIPPED OFF by APPLE
Apple App store advertised this to me as their pick ofthe week and I looked at the license options and there was a perpetual license version which I bought just a few weeks ago and downloaded it to my mbp and iPad and iphone. Now APPLE wants me to buy a subscription or pay another $199 for a perpetual license on my MBP. App Store on my mac says there is no record of me ever purchasing this app and that I have 10 free edits left. Is this the New APPLE DIRECTION and AppStore is only sharing positive reviews. Very TRUMPISH

Can’t copy and paste
This app can’t even select a portion of one image and paste it in another image
Okay, but with bugs
I would expect more from Apple to be honest. There’s bugs in this app. Photos won’t show in folders even though they exist on my normal library. All photos is selected in the settings. A poor experience when met with bugs. As I said, Apple should have far better QA than this.
Had high hopes
When Apple bought Pixelmator I had high hopes for less bugginess, better integration and new features. Instead they’ve pretty much abandoned it. Sad.
⚠️ Garbage app
3 layers in on editing on my iPad Pro m2 and the trash app crashed
(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
Apple always killing apps. I'm done with this app. Gonna let Adobe sell my data and sub to Lightroom, better than this garbage app

Full Library Experience with External Storage on iPad
As a travel photographer, I rely on my iPad as my primary editing device on the road. I store my photos on an external SSD and need to edit them directly without importing to local storage.
On Mac, Photomator offers a full library experience with ratings, filters, and smart albums. On iPad, connecting an external drive reduces the app to a basic file browser — losing the features that make Photomator worth using.
Please bring full library functionality to external storage on iPad. This would make Photomator a true professional tool for photographers who travel light.

DOES NOT OFFER REFUNDS - BE CAREFUL
I did not want to purchase this after the trial but having gone through the proper Apple claim process they are not willing to offer a refund. Therefore do not go in to a trial unless you are prepared to pay for it as they DO NOT OFFER REFUNDS.
Good but not great
Has a lot of features and makes for quick photo editing. Some features of the interface are a bit unintuitive, especially if you are used to Photoshop style editing. Also, why have a whole panel on the left only for a tiny histogram view and no other tools? Would be great if also displayed waveforms and vector scope which are highly useful for color correction.
