Amazing app for knee surgery recovery

I had 2 ACL / meniscus surgeries within the last year and this app has been instrumental in my recovery. It's super helpful to track flexion and extension within the app to see how well I'm progressing. The video physical therapy sessions with the founder were super helpful for me to compare where I'm sitting compared to other athletes in recovery, and it provided a ton of helpful exercises on the video therapy that I was able to do at home to progress faster.

Thank you very much for the thorough review. I’m glad that I was able to help you during our video physical therapy sessions. It has been a pleasure working with you. It’s great that you found the knee flexion and extension measurements helpful as well as the daily video guided exercises in the app. People being able to progress at home on their own with some guidance is exactly why I created this app. Keep up all of your hard work and feel free to reach out to me via in the in-app chat if you have any questions related to your ACL recovery.

Critical in my recovery

Recovering from MPFL so the only feature I’ve used has been the flexion calculator. It’s been more consistent with its measurements than my pt, and helps me know my morning flexion as well as warmed up. Seeing the numbers move slowly but surely has been critical for my mental health over these long months. Before I found this app I would wait desperately between pt appointments wondering if my body was even doing anything.

Thank you very much for the review. I’m glad that you have found the knee range of motion measurement in the app useful and motivating for your recovery. I absolutely agree this is a critical measurement that people should be able to take at home any time they need to and not wait for in-person appointments. One of the rehabilitation protocols we plan to add to the app is MPFL in the future. I will keep you informed and let you know when we add MPFL recovery to or app.

Very much worth it!

The exercises are clear and easy to follow along. I took a 1 yr subscription and got a free consultation with Dr Nirtal Shah. I got a few customisations for the exercises and I’m seeing improvements with my 1 week’s use so far. Also, the in app Q&A support queries are responded in time. I was looking for a long term physio routine for strengthening and and rebuilding my muscles. This suits perfectly.

Great tool

I had an MPFL reconstruction and, while I’m doing in person PT and don’t need exercise guidance, the ability to track my pre/post exercise flexion at home has been incredibly helpful. I would be more inclined to use the other features of this app if the ACL wasn’t the only option for a ligament injury.

Thank you for the review and I hope your MPFL recovery is going well. We have had many people use our app for MPFL recovery. I’m glad the ability to measure your knee flexion and extension at home has been helpful for you. If you have any specific questions about which exercises are appropriate for your MPFL recovery please reach out to me via in the in-app chat and I would be happy to guide you. I can even create a custom exercise video link that would work for your daily recovery that may not be covered in the ACL exercise protocol within the app.

Recovery from Knee Surgery

I find Curovate very helpful. I decided to do my own PT for the first two weeks before I start outpatient. Curate walks me through the exercises with an easy check off list and I can see where I’m making progress as well as understand how I’m supposed to be doing the exercises, One of the only things that I Find fault with is the glute exercise, which says to lie on your stomach.. I kept getting bleed through from my incision, because of doing it on my stomach, so instead, I do those standing up and that solves the problem.

Response from developer

Hello, thank you for the review. I’m glad that my app is helping you with your knee recovery after surgery. You have made an excellent point about the glute contraction exercises. I agree with you that doing these standing or lying on your back while contracting your glutes is an excellent alternative. I can understand how pressure on the incision of your surgical leg can cause pain and discomfort. Thank you for the great suggestion. If you have any other helpful suggestions please reach out to me via our in-app chat. All the best with your continued knee surgery recovery.

Good program, wish app worked a little differently

I just had ACL surgery recently. A friend had suggested this app after I complained that my physical therapist I’d seen for prehab was not giving me a structured program of exercises to follow and every session was random and felt like a waste of money and time. Curovate has filled that void and I’m glad to have it. But I do have one big issue with the UI/UX. If you don’t mark all your exercises completed, then when you open the app the next day, it takes you to the last incomplete day. This makes is so that you yourself are responsible for keeping track of what day of what section you should be on, and you have to lie about what you did in order to have it go to the correct day on its own. I want to be able to see that I didn’t do everything on a certain day. Maybe my pain was worse that day so i backed off. I would expect this app to work more like fitbit or myfitnesspal and open to the day you’re on and show your variation in adhering to the plan. Instead it’s more like a learning app where you would have to complete everything in one unit before moving on.

Hello, thank you very much for your thoughtful review. You are raising a very important point and one that I have worked on addressing over the past few years. Ultimately it was my decision to structure the app such that it would not advance to the next day until you had completed the previous day. This was done partially for safety to ensure that a person was ready for the next day and in some cases the next stage of exercises. I understand your point that you should be allowed to skip what you are not able to do and move onto the next day. Let me use an example to make a suggestion for how you can use the app - let’s assume that you are on stage 4 day 1. On this day you complete 60% of your exercises and then due to pain, fatigue, lack of time or any other reason you are not able to complete the other 40%. If you have decided to move onto day 2 on the next day simply open up the app and press “play day 1” and when it does you will still see 60% completed, then press on “select day” and in this drop down list select day 2. This will move you onto stage 4 day 2 while still tracking the fact that you only did 60% on day 1 while allowing you to move onto day 2. The only reason we do not automatically move everyone on every day is because we received lots of feedback from people who skipped days and at times weeks of exercise and when they returned to the app they found they had been moved ahead 2-3 stages (one stage is 7 days) and were very discouraged that they could not do any of the exercises. This led many people to stop their ACL exercises completely which we thought was a very bad outcome. This is the reason for the current structure but feel free to try my suggestion if you want to move along in the app chronologically. I’m happy to discuss this further and maybe there is a solution that can help everyone that I have not yet considered. I can be reached at nirtal@curovate.com

Ok, but has bugs

I got this after I had TKR and started the first set of exercises. When I changed the orientation of my iPad, it reset the timer for the exercise. I was halfway through so had to kind of figure out my own timing. Useful, but hopefully more stable in other functions.

Also, does not seem possible to change the exercise intensity and duration to what my doctor prescribes, only what they designed into the program, which is different.

Response from developer

Hello, thank you for the review. We are investigating the iPad issue you have mentioned here. At this time you cannot change the exercise intensity or duration but feel free to modify your exercises as they have been prescribed to you by your healthcare providers. Our protocols in the app are based on evidence-based research and rehabilitation protocols. If you have any other specific concerns feel free to reach out to me via the in-app chat. All the best with your TKR recovery.

Excellent help

After my ACL reconstruction I started using this app since day 1. I am now at day 20 and this app has taken me through all stages, providing adequate plans, way of keeping track of the progress and physiotherapist feedbacks and suggestions. It s the best thing I could have done in such a struggling time! Thank you!

Good for rehabilitation

I’m glad that you are finding the app useful for your rehabilitation.

Amazing

After having MPFL, ACL and meniscus done and really struggling to make improve my flexion and extension and just progress in general. This app really helped me keep to schedule and make sure I did all my workouts. You do have to pay for the app but it is well worth it, you can speak to a physio who does reply fairly quickly and gives better advice then my hospitals physio! Also being able to track your flexion and extension, amazing app well worth paying for. 100% recommendation anyone who’s had this injury and needs help keeping up with their excerises !

Great app

Have used this app for rehab pre and post ACL operation - really compliments and extends my physiotherapy, super happy with it

Response from developer

That is exactly the intention of the app to help you with your daily physiotherapy exercises and recovery. I’m glad that you are finding the app helpful. It’s fantastic that you found and used the app prior to your ACL surgery and after your surgery. I can’t stress how important prehab or preoperative rehabilitation is for ACL surgery recovery. Good luck with your ACL rehab.

Great for prehab and rehab

I started doing exercises with this program a few weeks before my knee replacement and continued to use it for the next several months. now 3+ months and I’m still using it. It’s a wonderful program and the tech-support is readily available if you need it.
I bought a year’s subscription with one consultation and it was a very beneficial consultation. my physical therapist here was impressed with how far I had come when I started in person physical therapy two weeks after the surgery.
