Notifications do work — they're part of premium. In Settings you'll find toggles for per-planetary-hour alerts (Venus, Mercury, and so on), Moon Phases, Zodiac Changes (the Moon entering a new sign), and Void of Course. If they aren't firing after subscribing, also check that notifications are allowed for the app in iOS Settings. You're right that we don't yet have alerts for "planets" entering new signs (Sun, Mercury, Venus, etc.) — it's something we're planning to add. For retrograde alerts specifically, we have a separate app: Planetary Retrogrades. Our recent 2.04 update (it seems you are using 2.03) brings void-of-course into the Upcoming Events timeline, a richer per-eclipse detail view, and a better Moon tab and also better notifications.
