actually might be the best mobile game ever created. i'm addicted im obsessed i cant put it down. its so much fun. the visuals are super charming + i love the soundtrack, not to mention the gameplay is just... fun. it's really fun. the accessories/charms are fun to mix and match, and i like the puzzles, and i LOVE that there's an endless mode after you've "finished" the game. this rules. AND. ITS FREE? WITH NO ADS?????? incredible.

An actually good free game
Poinpy is one of those rare mobile games that is an actual game.
…Okay so obviously I’m being a bit facetious—frankly I’m not much of a mobile gamer. Smartphones just aren’t suited for the types of games I enjoy playing, and mobile games (especially “free”-to-play ones) are often plagued with frustrating design choices that disrespect the player, with the goal of getting the player to fork over cash to ease that frustration. So it is incredibly refreshing to play something on my phone, for free, that actually respects the player. And it’s a well designed game, on top of that.
While Poinpy is far from the first game of its kind, it delivers an incredibly solid and well-polished experience comparable to other small indie arcade games you can find on PC and console, with an insanely addictive gameplay loop. And the controls work well on a phone too. In my opinion, the creator’s prior game, Downwell, suffered from the use of touchscreen buttons (which are never quite as responsive as the real, tactile buttons on a controller); Poinpy’s tap and slide controls, by contrast, are simple and intuitive, yet allow for a similarly compelling experience.
I skipped this game back when it was on Netflix (because, like… why is Netflix hosting games anyways? lol) but was intrigued seeing it release on the App Store 100% free with zero drawbacks (only with the option to leave a tip). Kinda crazy, whoever came up with that. But it might actually be a secretly genius financial decision because I actually did end up voluntarily leaving a tip, and I probably wouldn’t have spent any money on this game if it were instead filled with ads or behind a one-time paywall. The game is truly free, though, so if you’re dead set on not spending any money (and make no mistake, there is no incentive for tipping, the devs don’t guilt-trip you, it’s entirely at your discretion) there’s zero risk in downloading and trying it yourself.

A netflix jail escapee makes good.
I own the devs previous work across multiple platforms, and really enjoyed this when it dropped on Netflix games. I wouldn’t have minded paying for it, as I’d basically beaten it on Netflix before it was removed. I don’t remember exactly but I think the puzzle levels are new… or I neglected to unlock them before. Either way new to me and a nice surprise!

POINPY harkens back to the early days of the App Store where simple arcade games with easy to learn touch controls were king. Much like Downwell movement is fun and fluid. It’s a momentum based system which keeps your control feeling deliberate and the action constantly exciting. The game has a colorful presentation, it reminds me of Nintendo with its barrage of simple yet charming characters.
POINPY is free with no ads or strings attached. That’s so rare in today’s market that some may assume it’s too good to be true, but it isn’t. POINPY is just like that.

I don’t know if I’m bad at this or just missing the point but it feels like I can only play for like 30 seconds at a time. After a few fruit it’s like, “ok, now collect 6 fruit while only having 2 jumps and also avoiding a ton of obstacles and also there’s a timer and also if you touch the ground (which you will, because none of the fruit you need are spawning and, again, you only have 2 jumps) you have to start again, but you can’t, because of the aforementioned timer” and it seems to go from a relaxing, fun casual jaunt to impossibly difficult ludicrously quickly.

Usually when you hear the term "mobile game" you think of those sloppy games with barely any effort put into them. Boring, souless, maybe even a bit corporate, but this game is different. This mobile game is a work of art. It's cutesy, wacky, wonderful, hard but IMMENSELY fun and addicting at the same time. It's everything a mobile game should strive to be and more. All of these things, in a game called Poinpy of all things.
So what do you even do in Poinpy? Well, you awaken this cat beast thing, and hop around a stage collecting fruit to turn into fruit juice before you touch the ground. And if you fail to make the juice to please the beast in time, you get fried alive by its firey breath for your effort. And that's it. Yep. That's your whole goal. Sure you can get these modifiers to spice up the gameplay, and get to new places with new gimmicks, but the overall goal, is just please the beast.
Okay, that doesn't sound too bad, but then why are you singing its praises like a big buffoon? Well, once you get a bit further into the game, get more modifiers, more jump orbs, Poinpy reveals its trick. COMBOS. Once you get the fruits you need for the order, you don't just stop there. You can collect more fruits to up your combo. The more fruits you get, the more your combo goes up, and the more your combo goes up, the more your gourmet level goes up and you explore new areas, more golden seeds (this game's currency) but more importantly, your DOPAMINE.
Once you get a combo going, YOU'LL NEVER WANT TO STOP. Stomp on a pot. Stomp on a bird. Stomp on an innocent, poor soul. STOMP ON LITERALLY ANYTHING, AS LONG AS YOU CAN GET MORE FRUIT TO UP THAT COMBO. And then you reach it. Gourmet level 20. There's no more fruit to collect. No more orders, everything just goes silent. It's just you, and the beast.
What exactly happens after all of that? Well, dear reader. GO FIND OUT YOURSELF!!!!! PLAY THE GAME. GET LEVEL 20. HAVE FUN. PLAY THIS COMPLETELY FREE GAME. STOP READING THIS REVIEW. IF YOU STILL AREN'T CONVINCED, THEN I DON'T KNOW WHAT WILL CONVINCE YOU. JUST PLAY THIS MASTERPIECE ALREADY!!!

Revenu d'entre les morts après avoir disparu du catalogue Netflix, Poinpy est toujours aussi excellent. Accessible pour ceux qui veulent un petit challenge sympathique avec une bonne courbe de progression, exigeant pour ceux qui voudront (essayer de) réussir toutes les médailles optionnelles et roder leurs meilleurs combos dans le mode infini.
Son univers pinpant à la direction artistique minimaliste mais réjouissante qui rappellera parfois Nintendo jusque dans ses sonorités (Moppin y a travaillé donc est-ce si étonnant ?).
Énorme recommandation de ma part donc.
Mon unique pinaillage est le suivant : Réussir la médaille à 4 orbes de sauts est quasiment impossible du fait de l'équilibrage du dernier niveau qui fait office de mur infranchissable même avec une maîtrise tout à fait impeccable.

I like this game it’s very fun but I got a weird bug where now I can’t even load up the game and it just gives me a gray screen. I’ve undownloaded it and reinstalled it and it was still broken

Best platformer I’ve ever played
So fun, so satisfying, and very casual. Easy to pick up and mess around with for 5 minutes or a full hour
