About
Polar align your astrophotography mount quickly and easily, using just your phone. Works with equatorial mounts and Star Adventurer style star trackers.
HOW IT WORKS
The app uses your latitude and longitude to work out where the celestial pole sits in the sky. It then reads your phone's compass and tilt sensors and tells you how far to turn and raise your mount. A live arrow points you in the right direction, and the screen turns green once you're aligned.
GETTING STARTED
1. Put your mount in its parked position, pointing roughly north or south depending on your hemisphere.
2. Open the app and place your phone on your mount's saddle, or stand it upright on a star tracker, and pick the matching mode.
3. Follow the arrow, then turn and raise your mount until the circles line up.
4. For precise alignment, finish with your mount's polar scope or a plate solving routine.
COMPASS CALIBRATION
Phone compasses can be thrown off by nearby metal, magnets and electronics, including the mount itself. Once your mount is precisely aligned, tap the calibration button and the app will centre itself to match. Your calibration is saved, so next time you set up the app starts from a more accurate reading.
