Great concept, but buggy

I love the Explain Pain book and purchased this app to help me apply what I learned in the book. The app is beautiful and would have been great, except for one major issue: DIMs and SIMs that I added seemingly randomly disappeared. I have noticed it after having added quite a few SIMs under a specific category (like “People in your life”) and then coming back to find that half of them are no longer there, almost as if the more recently added SIMs overwrote the one added earlier (getting me in trouble with my wife, not seeing herself on the list, even though I know I added her...).

I cannot find any place in the app for contacting support, which is why I provide the details here - hopefully the app is supported and still maintained...

For now I will use a Word document or spread sheet for listing my DIMs and SIMs and use the app for the challenges only.

Poor execution

Seems like a useful tool, but very poor execution. Not intuitive to use + poor instructions, crashes every 1-2 minutes during use, screen randomly rotates so that keyboard hides where you are typing, "buttons" glitchy. It stresses me out to use this and I'm irritated that I spent $10 on an app that is almost unusable.

Superb tool

I'm a big fan of Lorimer Moseley's work and this app is a must for any chronic pain sufferer. Simple to use, and an invaluable aid to understanding the triggers that shape your experience. Watch his TED talk if you wish to get a flavour of his work. Helped me enormously.

Fabulous

After working with the principles of the protectometer for some time now, I was thrilled when this app came out. And I am not disappointed. This is such a great tool for bringing awareness to pain conditions which might otherwise appear mysterious and out of control.

The whole concept of DIMS and SIMS is so helpful in seeing that there are things we can do every day to boost wellbeing and reduce pain.

A big thank you to the NOI team for their incredible work and for making their pain management tools so accessible to people like me (and you!)

FAQ

What is Protectometer?

Protectometer is a pain treatment tool based on pain science research. It helps users understand the factors contributing to their pain and discover ways to reduce it by identifying 'DIMs' (Danger In Me) and 'SIMs' (Safety In Me).

How does Protectometer help reduce pain?

Protectometer helps users understand their 'personal pain formula,' which is based on the balance between credible evidence of danger ('DIMs') and safety ('SIMs'). By uncovering and addressing DIMs, and finding more SIMs, users can work towards reducing their pain.

What are DIMs and SIMs in Protectometer?

DIMs (Danger In Me) are factors that contribute to pain, such as diagnoses, words spoken, or biological processes. SIMs (Safety In Me) are things that make you feel stronger, better, healthier, and more confident, helping to counter DIMs.

Can Protectometer be used for specific pain conditions?

Yes, Protectometer is designed to help individuals with various chronic pain states, including back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, headaches, fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.
