What's New in QuickScan Book Leveler

6.5

September 13, 2026

Better book identification from the barcode, and more reading levels looked up rather than estimated. - Special editions and book-fair printings — A title that carries an edition note in parentheses, such as a movie tie-in or a cover variant, is now searched on the book's own title. A title that appears as the second half of an ARBookFind entry matches too, so a book that has a quiz no longer comes back with nothing. - Authors the catalogues spell differently — An ARBookFind entry credited surname-first, or under a shorter form of the first name, now matches the author your scan found. A book credited to more than one author is tried under each name, not only the first. - A second source when the first comes up empty — Scholastic Book Wizard is now consulted for a title and author after the other sources, and an entry that carries no real title, or that lists the publisher where the author belongs, is passed over rather than accepted. When Scholastic names a book ARBookFind missed, the reading level is looked up again under that title. - United States or United Kingdom — Settings now carries an ARBookFind site choice under Reading Levels. Pick United Kingdom if your school uses the UK catalogue, and the next scan searches it. - A cover for a book the barcode cannot place — When a lookup comes back with no cover, QuickScan looks one up by title and author. A book with no ISBN no longer takes its cover and levels from another book, and any book that already did has them cleared and looked up again.

Waste of money

Claims to use the F and P book levelling system but does not display the information. Doesn’t have hardly ANY older books. No place to change settings or anything. What a scam.

Needs Improvement

I have not been able to level many books because they do not have them in their database. For the free version you get only so many scans per day. A scan should not count if you do not have it in your database.

Response from developer

I'm sorry to hear that you've experienced issues leveling some of your books. There are a number of different reasons why QuickScan may not identify the book you are scanning, even though it connects to online sources for AR and Lexile information. QuickScan utilizes a number of different sources to identify the title of the book by the barcode that you scan, but some publishing houses issue many barcodes for the same title and they are not all listed in the AR database (while the title of the book may be). If it can’t find the barcode in the AR database, then it will make several attempts to identify the title of the book and then search AR based on the title and author. Still, there are times where this does not properly identify the book you are scanning. I am constantly trying to improve QuickScan, so I would really appreciate it if you would send me (help@ifthendev.com) the title and author of the books that aren’t working along with a picture of the barcode that you are scanning. This will help me do some research and see if there are additional improvements that can be implemented. One thing that I’ve noticed is that some books will have a second barcode inside the front cover of the book. This barcode typically works better than the one on the back of the book. As far as the limited number of scans in the free version, only successfully identified books count towards the daily limit. QuickScan scans and positively identifies thousands of books per day, and it does work for the vast majority of books that our users scan. With that being said, I am constantly trying to improve identification and accuracy, so I would really appreciate you sending along additional information to me so I can continue to improve.

Not fast or consistent

Mine keeps telling me the info is unknown and then my daughter scans it and it pops up. And it’s slow

Just ok

I live the feed back this app gives on the books I scan but I wish it would save them somewhere. There’s no way to go back and look at the books I have previously scanned. It be 5 starts and worth the monthly fee if it saved the scanned books.

Response from developer

Thank you for using QuickScan and for trying the app. I'm glad to hear that you like the information that is provided when you scan books. QuickScan was designed to be a quick, light-weight ISBN scanner to provide instant book leveling information, and I'm glad to hear that it is meeting those promises. I will take your feedback into account as I evaluate features for future versions.

Says 0

Look I before I payed it said 0 for everything but after I paid it still said 0 and it’s misleading because it says you don’t have to pay overall big scam.
