This app has been such a breath of fresh air when all of my other favorite social sharing apps have become too over-stimulating, too algorithmic, too many people trying to sell something. Rec League right now feels like a group text with cool people just sharing things that they find interesting whether it’s articles, concepts, products, art/design/music/films or even moments of delights or things people find that make their life easier/happier/better. I’ve found a lot of great travel recommendations and even things I’ve saved to do in my hometown! Some people have paywalled content but there is a lot that is free! I’ve definitely gotten the shoppies from products or clothing people have endorsed on here but none of the the things recommended feel like spon con or how it feels when companies have clearly reached out to influencers to style their new clothing/product line.

This app is so fun! No AI slop! No ads! Just kind and interesting people sharing things they love about the world. Every time I get on I see something interesting or something I want to learn more about. Really a positive experience.
Great First Impressions. The Future of Social Media (Hopefully)
When I first heard of Rec League it was pitched as the response to the current state of social media, that this will be the entropic end of the algorithm and content slop. The reductive way to describe this app is imagine a combination of Reddit and Pinterest but for people with (kind of) pretentious and very niche taste. But there is something very personable about RL, you’re not being fed the latest trends, just the recommendations of those you follow and maybe their follows as well. You have a bit of the MySpace flair where you can customize your own page and theme it so that it represents you.
Would really like to see a roadmap of features first and foremost. There’s a lot of things I would personally like to see but I acknowledge that they may go against the core ethos of the team so if users had a sense of what will be added then at least I can temper expectations. Otherwise here are my primary areas of feedback (Again apologies if these are already planned or will be announced but I can’t read the future as of 17 May 2026):
1. Needs a bit more transparency when it comes the “Explore” section on how it works. Of course nothing is truly “algorithm” free. Since there’s no way to tag your recommendations neatly into the 12 default categories (and subcategories) I assume that there must be some kind of content scraper that analyzes what you post and attempts to file it as neat as it can. But there doesn’t seem to be…consistency? Like why is there a separate “Home” and “Kitchen” category (Is a kitchen not in your home)? “Outdoors & Active” are VERY broad that covers things like gardening to snowboarding. If I had to guess the subcategories are auto-generated by the content submitted, not the other way around? Also on any category itself there only ever shows the most popular of what I can only assume of all time? I haven’t seen it change at all in the entire time I’ve been using RL. Recs of the Week include posts older than a week, so does that mean these are the recs that people LIKED most this week (regardless of submission time) or the most popular recs that were POSTED this week? New and Notable pages include…no one new, just the same popular pages with thousands of followers. So yeah I know this one thing can be a whole effort to overhaul by itself but that’s my initial reaction to it. Sorry, probably need several user stories for this one.
2. Also we can browse recommendations, why can’t we browse requests? Maybe a “Trending Requests” subhead? This is a tough one and this could apply to #1 as well but the argument I can see be made against this is that there is an unintended feedback loop where only the most popular will get more traffic thereby driving more traffic to only popular posts. But doesn’t that already exist with the broken explore page?
3. Sorting your home page? By new? By top of the day, week, month, etc? It’s got the same Reddit problem where if the page accidentally jumps or refreshes or I misclick and go back to find what I wanted to see then it’s completely gone and I have to hope that RNG will bring it back to me.
4. Leaving comments and following. File this one under design philosophy? Why is it that I auto follow someone when I leave a comment? Is one of the ethos of this app that if you are engaged enough to comment on a request or recommendation that you should just follow that person? If that’s the case then fine I get it but seems weird. I wonder what the calculus is on how to weigh engagement vs non engagement? There is a defined opportunity cost, I think, for people’s willingness to comment if there’s a condition. For example take my very ADHD brain: I will often times see a recommendation or a request I’d love to comment on but I weigh the social transaction of me then following this person. I look at their page and I think yeah I could and it’s no skin off my back but I’m not the target demographic for 99% of their recs so do I leave a comment anyway but have this awkward moment where I have to then unfollow them afterwards? Do I suck it up and give the person the engagement or miss out because of the psychology of the interaction?
5. File this one under design philosophy as well. Will we be able to DM other users? Is the point of this app to protect and insulate users from one another? If so I understand why we’ll never be able to DM others but sometimes you may want to connect with someone but there’s like no unobtrusive way to do it. Yeah I could just post a comment on one of their recs but sometimes it looks funny out of context or maybe I have to hunt down their socials which then also seems weird here’s a random person DM’ing you on IG instead. I don’t know. I’ll leave it up to the team on this.
6. Report functionality on desktop? You can report and block people on the app but not on desktop. Unless I am just going insane. Also no bug report option either. I have to email you. But I’m positive this will be quietly rolled out in the future.
7. Weird notification behavior. I’ve unsubscribed from email notifications but sometimes I’ll still get an email about a comment or a follow. I’ve rechecked and unchecked. Still happens. No badge notifications on mobile. Notifications come in sometimes 1-2 hours after it’s happened.
8. I know people will scream laziness at this no matter which way this goes since it takes resources to make a different version of an app and optimize it for yet another hardware platform, but the iPad version is almost unusable. I just access from the browser and uninstalled the app because links will auto open using the app. Honestly your desktop site is very well designed and it fits almost neatly into the iPad environment. This is probably the lowest priority.

Such a world expanding app. Find the coolest things ranging from hikes, restaurants, shows and things out in the world to shoes, special spice blends, music, and fancy body scrubs. Such a great range of things I’d never come across any other way!

Really hope this app takes off. It has a beautiful, intuitive and minimalistic UI. I love being able to see recommendations without all the fluff of video, clickbait, and all of that other ugly stuff.

Such a great idea for an app! Beautiful interface, super customizable, and lots of really cool recommendations to explore for so many different interests. Honestly it's the only social media I find enjoyable to use these days, and it really has so much potential to grow.
No more doomscrolling
I joined Rec League to list and catalogue books and movies but ended up discovering Throwing Fits and Ali LaBelle’s great recs; love the Tumblr-esque aesthetic and a lovely break from the fire-hose of slop on IG. Genuinely great idea.
