RECAM Old Phone Security Cam

Your old iPhone has one job left: watching the place while you're out. Scan a QR code and it becomes a camera you watch live from the phone in your pocket. Encrypted end to end. Talk through it. Sound a siren. Replay what it saw. RECAM turns a spare iPhone or iPad into a camera, and the phone you carry into the screen. No account to create, no hub to buy, no footage handed to anyone. Pairing is one QR scan — and that QR code is the encryption key itself, which is why the app refuses to let it be screenshotted. I built RECAM because a drawer full of old phones is better hardware than most cameras you can buy, and because I did not want my living room living on somebody else's server. WATCH • Live video from one device to the other, encrypted end to end • Direct over your Wi-Fi when your router allows it • When it can't — mobile data, a router that won't open a port — the stream falls back to a relay. The relay passes it along and never holds the key, so it cannot see what it carries • Remote zoom, and a torch that comes on by itself in low light • Several cameras in one list; hide the ones you're not using • Face ID lock on the app itself REPLAY WHAT THE CAMERA SAW (Pro) • Tap the clock on the live screen and the same encrypted stream switches from live to recorded • Pause, skip to the previous or next clip, watch them oldest to newest, then go back to live • Nothing to download, no second app, no cloud in the middle • Clips are recorded when motion or sound sets them off, or the moment any viewer taps record TALK AND DETER (Pro) • Push to talk: record up to thirty seconds and it plays out loud on the camera phone. Recorded and delivered, not a call, so nobody has to answer • When the camera's owner has Pro, the camera can answer back to everyone watching • Unheard messages stack behind a badge and play oldest first • Remote siren: make the camera phone scream for up to five minutes as a deterrent. It asks you to confirm first, because a mis-tap is a painful noise in someone's home. Stopping is instant CLIPS STAY ON THE CAMERA PHONE • Recorded on that device and nowhere else. No RECAM cloud, no iCloud backup • Auto-delete old clips after 1, 7 or 30 days, or never — plus hard ceilings of 100 clips and roughly 2 GB, and the newest clip is never pruned • Only the camera's owner can delete a clip. Guests can watch and steer, not destroy IT WATCHES AND LISTENS ON THE DEVICE • Human detection and animal detection • More than forty sounds you can arm one by one: glass breaking, a smoke alarm, a baby crying, a dog barking, a door slam, a knock, a doorbell, footsteps, power tools, a running tap • Baby face monitoring tells you when the nose and mouth are no longer visible • One tap picks a profile — Baby Phone, Pet Watcher, Home Security — and retunes what the camera watches and listens for • All of it runs on the phone. Nothing is shipped off to be analysed IT REPORTS ON THE PHONE ITSELF A spare phone on camera duty has problems of its own, so RECAM tells you about them: battery level and charging state, Low Power Mode, how hot it is running, when it starts or stops casting, when it drops to standby, and when its volume is too low for the siren to carry. SHARING • Pair someone else with a QR code — they watch from RECAM on their own phone or tablet • Revoke all shared access renews the passphrase: every follower is cut off and every clip is deleted RECAM PRO Watching a paired camera live, recording a clip by hand and the core notifications need no subscription. Pro is an optional subscription, monthly or yearly, and adds clip replay, the siren, push to talk, and AI alerts without a cap.
