About
REDACT — FACES OFF.
A native macOS and iOS app that automatically pixelates faces in your photos. One tap, every face — and nothing ever leaves your device.
Built for photographers, journalists, organisers, and anyone who publishes photos with people in them. Whether it's a single portrait, a small group, or a packed crowd of hundreds — Redact finds every face and anonymises it locally, in seconds.
— WHY REDACT —
• ON-DEVICE
Face detection runs through Core ML on Apple's Neural Engine. Works in airplane mode. The model is built in. There is
no server.
• ZERO TRACKING
No analytics. No crash reports. No advertising IDs. No third-party SDKs. There is nothing to opt out of, because nothing was ever opted in.
• EVERY FACE
Two faces or two thousand. Crowds, concerts, demonstrations — Redact finds every face, even from the back, even partly turned away.
• NATIVE
SwiftUI on macOS 14+ and iOS 18+. Drag and drop on the desktop, PhotosPicker on iPhone and iPad. No Electron, no web wrappers, no compromises.
• FREE
The core app is free.
— WHAT REDACT DOESN'T DO —
• No accounts. Open the app and start working.
• No cloud. Your photos never leave your device.
• No telemetry. We don't know what you do with the app, and we like it that way.
• No third-party SDKs. The app cannot phone home because there is no home.
— USE CASES —
• Photographers anonymising event coverage before posting
• Journalists protecting sources and crowds in published photo essays
• Activists and organisers sharing protest footage without exposing participants
• Anyone who wants to share a group photo without violating someone's privacy
— PRIVACY —
Redact is built around a single principle: the safest image is the one that never leaves your device. Photos are processed entirely on the chip in your hand. No copy is uploaded, no metadata is shared, no analytics is collected — ever.
