Used to love it, but it’s getting worse
Personally, I also find the platform increasingly anxiety-inducing. There’s a constant stream of posts about high-income, highly educated lifestyles, luxury consumption, second-hand disputes, “avoid this company” posts, etc. Some of these experiences are real and useful, but seeing them endlessly can make everyday life feel like a competition. Food recommendations have a similar problem: some posts may be incentivized by restaurants or brands, but it’s often impossible to tell what is genuinely recommended and what is posted for a reward. When everything looks equally “authentic,” it can create a distorted sense of what everyone else is eating, buying, or experiencing.
The moderation is another major issue. One account can post something without consequences while another gets banned for essentially the same thing, often with vague explanations. Users are left guessing what the actual rules are. People have been complaining about this since at least 2024, yet little seems to have changed.
At this point, it honestly feels like Xiaohongshu has become too big to care about its users.

Terrible Experience
I’ve seen many other users report similar experiences with unexplained bans and ineffective appeals. This kind of account enforcement is extremely frustrating and unfair. Xiaohongshu has given me one of the worst app experiences I’ve ever had, and I’m now actively looking for alternative platforms.
Out of Control Censorship
phone number unfairly restricted, getting no help
my last review: they restricted my entire phone number because i deleted my previous account during a “violation period” even though i did nothing wrong. i only got hit with this violation because i commented once on a video.
i love this app
China
No he podido ingresar
太次了 全都是淫秽 骂人 侮辱人的视频
深色模式图标呢?
无缘无故封我三次
Too addictive 🥹
Extremely unfriendly to overseas users
There is apparently no real way for overseas users to reach human customer support. The AI support tells me that I can contact customer service through a specific button in the app, but that button simply does not exist. I submitted an appeal more than a month ago and have received absolutely no response.
Even worse, I can’t properly see or track the appeals I’ve submitted, and some of my content appears to be restricted from being seen.
I originally downloaded Red Note because it helped me stay connected to China and ease my homesickness while living abroad. It’s incredibly disappointing that an app I genuinely enjoyed has left me feeling like my account is being unfairly restricted, while giving me no practical way to appeal or even contact a human being.
The platform needs to provide a real and accessible customer support and appeal channel for overseas users. Right now, the process is incredibly frustrating and feels completely inaccessible.
世界杯之后评论乌烟瘴气
完全不尊重言論自由的垃圾軟件
I love you
Great App, Terrible and Biased Moderation
The appeal system is practically nonexistent. You can submit an appeal, but it gets rejected within seconds with a generic response and no explanation of what you actually did wrong. It feels entirely automated with no meaningful way to reach a human reviewer. Great platform, but the moderation and appeal process desperately need improvement.
