Was very good. Now even better.

This app was already well designed and robust. And now the latest v1.5.1 update made it so much better. The features I hope exist and just try (double click the volume fader or pan knob to reset the position, automatically restore previous pitch, show pitch as semitones setting, etc) are a joy to discover. It inspires creativity and curiosity as I now just want to play around with it more, finding new ways to use it. Support the people who worked hard on this app. Stop thinking about it. Just buy it!

This app Bangs!!

This is an insanely useful tool for me. I have a Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II. Definitely watch the YouTube video they have to understand what you are doing, but this is a great app to use your phone as an interface and also a solid resample method. What this essentially does is it gives you the 4 track tape you would have on a OP-1. I did find an issue with the Mixer screen but I reached out to the developers and they responded same day with a fix. (Note) the issue will be resolved on the update coming out in a few days.

I would recommend an ability to adjust the loop points after being set.

Cool not great…

It’s a cool app but two major issues. Scrubbing feels a bit weird. If I scrub slow, the audio cuts out when you expect it just slow down the recorded audio. It would be nice if it was smoother so you can hear how your music sounds slow without using PITCH.

Not only that, but a mixer with no EQ or plug-in support ? I just feel at a loss with this. It’s cool to look at it. But I’m not getting 15$ worth at the moment. Wouldn’t recommend as it stands

Response from developer

Hi ManChase, Thanks for your honest feedback, appreciate it. We have a new update already scheduled for 30th July. This fixes the audio scrubbing to be more sample accurate and a new DJ mode which makes it sound more like a record. EQ and plugin support is on our development log for a future update. If you have any other requests for the future, feel free to contact us on support@reelaudio.app. We read and respond to every email. Thanks for your support and hope the upcoming updates bring more value to your workflow.

Easy. Fun. Super handy

Easy. Fun.

On a phone…

This is a digital 4 track tape recorder on a phone. I never thought I’d see the day we I could see and use such a thing. It’s really amazing so far even in the first two firmwares. Running anything into it and recording and manipulating it is a joy and uncovers so much. I’d implore anyone who likes tape style workflows to pick this up. It reminds me of using actual tape machines, it’s intuitive, simple and really fun once you get the simple workflow down. I’ve been pairing an OP-XY with it and making really nice textures from engines, having an external USB-C mixer or interface makes this even more of a powerful piece of software. Loading samples into it is really cool too, again so much to discover once adjusting varispeed controls. This is a full complete DAW once you learn the magic of tape, and remember, there’s four tracks of it here!

Fantastic app, a few criticisms.

I would love to be able to export in the pitch selected, or even be able to export loops as well. A visual cue for the metronome on the main page would be beautiful as well. Other than that it’s beautiful for sketching out songs.

Response from developer

Hey Deafstile, thanks for the kind words and feedback. We have logged all three requests and will look to add them in a future update. Thank you.

Great App Continuous Development

It's great to see this app be so supporter by its creator. I submitted a bug report via email -easy button click straight to him- and he responded very quickly with suggestions and having addressed my feedback.

Very helpful and looking forward to seeing where the app goes

Just what we needed

Love this so much, its what iv been looking for a long long time. Iv been using it in conjunction with my mpc sample and sp404mk2. The veri speed is a favourite feature of mine for sure. For v1.1 it feels solid and finished. Well done developers, this is a beautiful application. Id love a hardware controller for it. 10/10

Great App but..

..could you please add the level to set the app sounds to the volume of choice? When I wind back the tape its far too loud, especially on headphones. Besonders of that: awesome!

Response from developer

Hey Farmlin169, Thanks for the feedback! We have a new 1.5 update coming 30th July which did some rework to the audio engine including ff and rewind modelling more accurate tape machine behaviour. You can change the volume the standard way on your phone with the volume buttons on the side which changes the full app output volume. If I did not understand correctly, please send me an email at support@reelaudio.app and I will try fit your request into an update. Thanks again!

Great app when it’s not crashing

Please fix the issue with crashing other than that it’s amazing

Response from developer

Hey Dyne540, thanks for the kind words and for flagging this! We'd love to help get to the bottom of the crashing issue. Drop us a line at support@reelaudio.com and we'll look into it together.

Serious contender for best audio recorder

I own a number of non-DAW recorder apps - AUM, WavePad, AudioRecorder, Spire (+ it’s hardware) and of course Audiobus. All good apps still in use on my iPad.
But Reel is at another level - try it, you won’t be disappointed.

Nice but there is one thing that needs to be fixed

In the mixer interface in an iPhone 16 pro max the controls of T1 and T4 are partly outside the screen and cannot be accessed. Otherwise fun to use.

Response from developer

Thanks for flagging this. The mixer layout issue on iPhone 16 Pro Max is caused by iOS accessibility display settings. We have a quick fix video we can send you. Drop us a message at support@reelaudio.app and we'll get it over to you. A redesigned mixer UI is also on the way that won't be affected by these settings at all.

Limited

Can only record more than one track simultaneously on a “fresh reel”. After that, you can only record individual tracks. So, less functional the than GarageBand app. This is not made clear in the app description. Disappointing. Now seems a bit gimmicky.
Also, bugs with soloing and muting.

Response from developer

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this, it genuinely helps us improve. Reel is built around the classic 4-track tape workflow: start with a fresh reel to record all tracks simultaneously, then overdub individual parts on top. We know that's a different way of thinking about recording and we really should make it clearer upfront. That's on us and we're updating the description. The solo/mute issue is fixed. If you ever want to chat through the workflow or share any other feedback, we'd love to hear from you at support@reelaudio.app.

I Love it

Fantastic app! The idea and execution are truly excellent. Finally, a simple and creative multitrack recorder with real tape-machine vibes on the iPhone. The workflow is fun, everything feels well thought out, and the price is more than fair.

One feature I’d love to see in future updates would be the ability to use the iPhone’s internal audio as an input source — for example, to record audio directly from YouTube or other apps. That would open up even more creative possibilities.

Highly recommended!

Brilliant

Saves carrying a tascam about

needs improvement

I mainly got this for the main tape wheel, but its extremely laggy and in accurate. this can especially be noticed at low speeds while trying to scrub through audio. scratching on the wheel is impossible

Response from developer

Thanks for the honest feedback. Yes, Reel isn't where it should be for low-speed scrubbing and scratching yet. The primary design was built for tape-style function, but the scrub engine still needs to be better and we're working on it. Would love for you to get in touch via email contact@reelaudio.app so we can send you a build the moment it's ready to test and get your feedback. Thanks for pushing on this.

It’s just a joy to use

You can tell someone put lots of love and passion into this app. Works great and feels fun to use.

Nice and straightforward.

Not being the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to audio recording, I am impressed with the ease of use and especially how simple it is to move the file off the app to use elsewhere.

The field recorder I'd been missing

Fantastic app, works great with any inputs I've used, developer is very responsive to lil bugs. 9 stars.

An essential music tool

I’ve never reviewed an app before, but this one deserves notice. Super functional, easy to use 4 track recorder that is easy on the eyes and pleasantly tactile. great design, in the spirit of Teenage Engineering. This will be an essential tool in my music making process — great for generating and saving ideas, with pro audio quality. A huge upgrade from Voice Memos, for this purpose.
