Response from developer

Hi, We're so sorry to hear you had to experience this. However, we do have an update that you might like. 1) The latest version of the app (1.3.5+) syncs with Apple Health. Your 'active energy', 'workout time', 'height', weight', 'BMI', and 'waist circumference' are transmitted in real time to Apple Health, and this is the gold standard for fitness apps. If you're on the latest version and were not prompted for permissions, please check your Phone's Settings app and allow permissions to write to the Apple Health app. This happens smoothly for new users, but might require this additional step for users who have already downloaded the app before we added this feature. 2) Yes, currently you do have to unlock your phone to log sets, reps, and weight. We would love to know what suggestions you have to improve the experience. 3) This should not have happened. The time should resume when the app transitions between the background and foreground without an issue. We are willing to work this issue out with you. We are actively building more features into the app, and are willing to incorporate as much feedback as possible from the users. Thanks for your feedback. It is greatly appreciated. You can always reach out to me at vidur@vidursaini.com for app-related issues and support.

Bait and switch

This app was offered in the AppsGoneFree app. We are told to complete the onboarding and then select the free lifetime subscription. When you get to that point there is only a $74 lifetime subscription! No other options, not even a trial! Will be deleting this app. Save yourself the trouble and avoid it.

To clarify, in response to your reply, on the AppsGoneFree website we are told to complete the onboarding and then select the free lifetime subscription. This is standard boilerplate language used on many of the entries on that site. However, I stand by my comment that there was no option for a trial and that the only option was to sign up for a $74.00 lifetime subscription. On that matter, I do not appreciate the passive aggressive dismissal of my concern about the price, implying that I could have resolved the matter of a “simple paywall issue” by contacting you at an email address that I didn’t have and that was not identified in your onboarding process. Could I have found it if I had signed up for the $74 option that, again, was the only one I saw? Perhaps, but I wasn’t going to trust that once an unknown party had my money that they would freely give it back. Further, I cannot speak to any cache or other error you might claim that is supported by your “backend” I do know that I accessed the information on the day it was displayed on the app shortly after the time I was made aware by the app that new information was available. If you failed to coordinate your intended time of sale that is your responsibility, I commented on my experience and graded it accordingly. Maybe you do have an amazing app…. But if you handle the app the way that you handled this matter, I would have concerns about that.

Response from developer

Hi, We are really sad that you had to experience this. However, we will have to correct this since this review is factually incorrect. 1. We are running a lifetime free promo for the app from 18-21 September, which was covered by several website including the one you mentioned. 2. The amount you see could be because of a caching issue on your device. (We are willing to share the screenshot of the promo we have in the backend) 3. There is always a 3 day free trial, if you choose the weekly option - it will always be live. We never ‘told’ anyone to do anything. The instructions you got could be coming from a particular website you follow - not us. Gym AI would never run a ‘bait’ campaign, and are willing to refund if a card was ever wrongfully charged during this period (there are 0 such cases until now). We are always open to resolving any issue and can be contacted at vidur@vidursaini.com Also, we are disappointed that we got a 1 star review just because of a small paywall issue that could have been resolved easily. Our team worked really hard on developing the backend logic so the workout programs are always up to the mark and tailored to a user’s specific needs. We’d love more feedback on how we can improve the core app functionality. - Team Gym AI
