Replit Agent made my project worse and burned through paid usage — stay cautious
I moved an existing project to Replit after hearing that it was far better than platforms like Manus. I had high expectations and paid for Replit Pro because I wanted a serious AI development platform capable of completing and improving an already-established project.
Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing.
The project already had a detailed blueprint, milestones, and stage-by-stage instructions. I was not asking the AI to guess what I wanted. I deliberately broke the work into smaller tasks and gave clear instructions to reduce errors.
The main problem was execution.
Replit Agent repeatedly planned work, appeared to run multiple tasks, and then claimed that features had been completed or verified. When I checked the actual project, many of those changes were missing, incomplete, or simply not working.
Worse, the project was functioning when I originally imported it into Replit. After Agent started modifying it, buttons and features that previously worked stopped working, additional errors appeared, and I then had to spend more usage trying to repair problems introduced during the development process.
My usage dashboard ended up showing around $180 of AI usage, on top of the $120/month Pro subscription, while the project was in some respects worse than when I started.
The billing policy is also something people should understand before spending heavily. Replit’s published terms say subscription payments can be refunded within 30 days, but usage-based charges are generally treated as non-refundable because the compute has already been consumed.
That policy is one of my biggest frustrations. If an AI Agent loops, repeatedly fails a task, incorrectly reports completion, or creates new problems that then require further paid attempts, the customer can still end up paying for all of that compute.
For me, “compute was consumed” is not the same thing as receiving successful development work.
Support eventually acknowledged my Pro subscription was within the refund window, but the disputed AI usage has been much more difficult to resolve.
I appreciate that AI coding tools will never be perfect, and Replit does have impressive technology. The project import and cloud environment worked well initially. But for a large existing project where reliability, regression control, and accurate execution matter, my experience was not good enough.
I would strongly recommend that anyone considering Replit:
* keep strict spending limits;
* create backups/checkpoints before every Agent change;
* verify every claimed completion manually;
* do not let Agent make large uncontrolled changes to an existing working project; and
* understand the usage refund policy before spending significant amounts.
For basic prototypes, Replit may work well. For a serious existing application where you need precise, controlled development, I would personally look elsewhere.

Good but extremely but have a lot of bugs.
It’s good it builds a lot of great programs. but it has constant bugs when using the app. It will literally refresh out of the blue constantly.
What once was great now is not
Replit has gone down hill ever since they got in bed with Sam Altman. The “free” service is a joke as you can’t even make a single change without it suggesting a paid model.

FYI unable to cancel subscription after subscribing. No place in the app to cancel and after sending multiple emails to their customer service, and false promises that they would cancel my account, I am still getting charged.

I can literally create a website on my phone in 20 minutes. We are in the future

They will charge your card excessively never notify you and when you try and stop it, you basically have to delete everything and cancel your card otherwise they will keep charging you.
I asked them to refund me because I didn’t authorize the $800+ I charges and never once received notification my card was being charged. They did not refund me. I disputed it with my bank and lost.
Steer clear. Wish I never tried their stuff.

The idea of Replit it fantastic but it just uses other ais to do the work and changed your five times what the ai would change you to do it if you went to it directly. So just go to Claude…. The same ai Replit uses. And ask it to teach you to do what Replit does. You can self host and Claude will be able to make change and help you build your app with out Replit ripping you offf!! Free mode is the best
I used to think replit was like 3 maybe 4 stars but after free mode was added they solved my only complaint with the app which was the pricing, the free mode is generous and fair with its usage, allowing some simple tasks like changing text or asking a question don’t cost any money no matter what, this is a feature this app needed forever ago, and now that it’s here this app is easily one of the best website builders you could choose.
