About

RETALLS turns the useful fragments you come across every day into an organized personal collection. A passage from a book. An article worth keeping. A business card. A product label. A recipe, reference, note, or image you may want to find again later. Capture it with your camera, scan printed text using text recognition, paste it from the clipboard, or save it as an image. RETALLS helps you keep those fragments together and makes them easy to find when you need them. Organize your clippings by type and source, add keywords, and search across your collection. When several clippings belong together, you can combine their text into a single entry. RETALLS is designed around a simple idea: information worth keeping should remain easy to capture, easy to organize, and easy to retrieve. KEY FEATURES • Scan printed text with your camera using OCR • Capture and keep photos alongside text • Paste text or images directly from the clipboard • Organize clippings by type and source • Add keywords for flexible classification • Search titles, text, sources, and keywords • Highlight matching text in search results • Combine several text clippings into one • Crop and review captured images • Share your clippings and export them as PDF Multi-column press articles—even wrinkled pages Newspaper pages are among the most difficult documents to scan. They combine narrow columns, headlines, photographs, captions, sidebars and sometimes less-than-perfect paper. RETALLS has developed a dedicated Multi-Column scanning profile designed to recognize individual physical columns and reconstruct their reading order. It can also cope with photographs of pages that are not perfectly flat. Before text recognition, RETALLS can apply an image-cleaning preprocessing step intended to improve the material sent to OCR. This can be particularly useful with: • wrinkled or curved newspaper pages • uneven illumination • slightly soft photographs • low-contrast printing Save a book cover, poster, menu, diagram or reminder without filling Photos with full-resolution files. Browse image Clips in a fast carousel or a in a grid. Paint over any image with Apple Pencil. Select a group of images for sharing to Social Media apps. Museums are a natural use case for RETALLS. Instead of filling Photos with pictures of information panels that are difficult to find later, create a Source for the exhibition and capture the material directly into it merging photos with introductory wall panels, or artwork labels. Not everything worth keeping comes from a document. You may notice an advertisement, poster, shop sign or public information panel while walking through the city. Instead of taking a photograph and hoping to remember why you took it months later, save it directly into RETALLS, together with any recognized text and a useful Source or keyword.

What's New in RETALLS

1.1.0

October 22, 2026

Added AI to RETALLS using ChatGPT. A manual mechanism has been added to use ChatGPT to process AI requests over the text in clips stored in RETALLS. RETALLS is exposed now to Apple's Shortcuts app. Now you can paste any text or image in your clipboard to RETALLS without even needing to have the app open. The contents is stored as a new clip saved on a dedicated folder. Later the clip might be moved or copied to any other destination folder you might wish to choose. The camera has been improved. Now you can scan or take a photo up to an 8x optical zoom tele-photo level if your device supports it. By default when scanning the torch is off. Having the torch on by default could be embarrassing for instance when scanning a panel in a museum. A full search compound dialog has been added to allow for complex searches on all clips in RETALLS (AND, OR, EXCEPT)
